Ok so ever since i bought the doors and fender from 3pitss i have been harassed about how i should leave the dent as is. Now no matter what i am replacing those doors. I just hate them. But the fenders i could be convinced to sell and use money elsewhere. What is your opinion?
It depends on what you want to do with the dent. You want to "run what you brung?" then keep doing what you're doing by making it safe and reliable. Forget about the body as long as panels aren't flapping in the wind and causing problems for you and/.or other passers by. Otherwise, fix er up and make her look good then make a decision about how to proceed regarding wheeling.
Make it reliable and spruce the body up. As much as you seem to like driving and expoing it, looking decent wouldnt hurt, but reliablitliy is most important. Of course everyone knows cruisers look better than anything else no matter the condition!
If I remember correctly, you wanted a "family camping" vehicle. You've got one. Now just go which ever direction fits that description best.
The best advice I've gotten from this forum (though I have not necessarily used it) is to build it as you need it. Start with mechanics (you've done that/are doing it) and go from there. Go where you want to go and make changes or upgrades as you need them. Is making it look nice part of that plan? For me it would be. Others may be more concerned with ability to go more places.
Yeah my 62 is lifted but I'm more concerned with figuring out how to fix the rust I have. It's small enough that bondo or fiber would do the job and I'm not a welder so I know I can do one of the other options myself. On the other hand, I know that welding would be a better solution long term. My 62 is also my DD so I don't have the luxury of down time if something breaks. If I can't go there with my current set up, that's cool with me. I'll stick to the bunny slopes.
Cam from Iron Pig (This is an assumption as I don't know him well enough to speak for him) has a 62 that's chopped, dovetailed, SOA on 38s I think. He's more concerned with getting over that rock. If he doesn't make it, he will next time. He's not worried about the hood coming off when he rolls it again.
I am somewhere in between. Prbably gonna sell the fenders/inners.. Could use the $$ for springs or something. Mechanically i am getting there. Should make some major strides toward that this year. Especially if i can make the front axle hamom. I will have to see what fenders and inner are going for...
