Just looked. Only have 2 (3.73 ) thirds already set up. Sorry

Another thing you could do is order some gears and bearings and i could set it up for you.

Just another option on the table.

Alright I am back.
I have been sicker than hell. I barely made it home friday from the BBQ. I dont know if it was food poisoning or what but it was painful.
Anyway, feeling better now.

What Would be pros and cons of going to 3.7 gears?
Heres my take on going with 3.7 gears.
PROS
1. I daily drive the cruiser more than I wheel it.
2. In less than a year, I am moving to Eglin Florida. So most of my wheeling will be on the reserve which is mostly sand.
3. With a higher gear my RPMs should drop while daily driving equaling better fuel economy.
4. Maybe now I will have a 1st gear.
5. this would be a perfect oppurtunity to get the right gears for my needs.
CONS
1. obviuosly loss of crawling low gear.
2. ??

As you can see from my lack of CONS I obviously lack enough knowledge on the subject to make an informed decision. I dont think the 35s will be to much of an issue for the SBC to roll them.
Also, What do you guys think about keeping my front locker or moving it to the rear ?or getting an aussie locker for the rear? What would be the Best combo for my needs?

Darren,
I would love to bring my rig over to your place on Sunday so you could look at it and visually inspect the damage. Hopefully we can come up with a plan to get the rear fixed.

So what do u guys think? :meh:

Thanks
Del

changing from 4.11 to 3.73 will lower your engine about 250 rpms while cruising, so depending on where the sweet spot for econonmy is on your engine, it may help you or it could drop you out if the power range and bog the motor. Personally i think you have enough horsepower to make up for the difference.

I think 383 strokers suck gas across the entire rpm band - no? Since you have a SM465 (am I brain farting there?) 3.73's aren't going to hurt you much on the trail. However, if you put a 3.73 in the rear, you are going to have to do the same in the front. There's another con for ya'. Other than that, I'd say it's a crap shoot. It would be a huge consideration if you were running a stock tranny, with already crappy crawl ratio.

I am just going to go with the 4.10 and be done with it. I cant seem to find them online though. I have found 4.56 all the way to 5.13s
Anybody recommend a good online site to order them from, assuming they have the 4.10s?
I really need someone with more knowledge to help me inspect the rest of the third member and axle for damage. I want to make sure nothing else was damaged.

Thanks
DEL

Del, since your in the axle, if you have a few extra $$ slap you an aussie locker in. it will make a huge difference on the trail.

Eric,
Still on the fence with this one. I am locked in the front and would love to be locked in the rear also. My only hesitation is on road handling. Your right though, since I am already messing with it I might as well add it in now. I like the price on them too.

i have been daily driving my 80 for almost 2 years with an aussie locker, no complaints. you will hear a slight click, click, click when making tight turns in say a parking lot. other then that you won't know it is there. the extra traction it would provide off road should help keep you from spinning tires and breaking parts.

So far this is what I think I need based on some reading I have done.

Went to randys ring and pinion and heres what I think I need

The ring and pinion
PART #
ZG-TLC-411

and bearing and install kit
PArt #
BK TLC

I think the only thing else I should need is the gaskets to properly seal the third member and the rear cover and of course the oil.

I just found a group buy on the 40 section for gears so now its a waiting game.
looks like it will close next week. gonna have to wait and see.

call chase at east coast gear supply. Lots of us have used him for a variety of gears and diffs and he gives great prices and fast shipping. Its better to call. I think the website though is www.eastcoastgearsupply.com if i remember correctly.

Good luck
