Surprisingly, I bought my Hobart 187 through SEARS online....best price I could find online anywhere...loaded it up with a couple of coupons and got it very cheap. I would find a welder you want then shop the price.

also...my local welding supply shops (AIRGAS) in Burlington, VT sell some used equipment. You ought to check locally if possible.

Good luck.

Ebay has a whole bunch at good prices

There are two welding supply places close by, one in South Boston just over the Broadway bridge in front of the Gillette plant and the other on Mass. Ave right behind South Bay Center. PM me if you would like the names, I don't have them at my fingertips, but I drive by them regulary.

Indiana Oxygen is or was a good place to order welders from. They are a reputable dealer. I buy gas and supplies from one of the branches local to me near Cincinnati.

I bought my TIG from Airgas on mass ave near South Bay. The guys there are Mike and Kevin. They're both really nice guys, which is awesome, esp when you're new. The attitude thing from Tolman is bogus, though they do sell balloons and magic tricks, and are open on sat.

There's an Airgas (both were formerly Linde until about a year ago) in Cambridge on Vassar, and the guy who works there (Milton) is as nice as dudes come, except for price.

I'd recommend building a relationship with the Dorchester Airgas. I think I'm going to stop going to Cambridge one even though it's waay closer for me (timewise, no cylinders through the big dig tunnels). You're going to have to buy shielding gas locally, so having guys like you is key. Shipping might be equal to tax. I'd bet on a tax free holiday in august, though if you can wait.

The Diversion looks like a nice machine. If you plan on doing Al, also plan on buying a liquid cooled torch, and maybe a chiller. I have had two torches ruined from (other people) inadequate cooling.

Oh, I may have an extra 80cu ft argon tank you can have, but I probably won't know for a couple weeks.

I bought a small Lincoln from Indiana Oxygen (weldingsuppliesatIOC on ebay)... got exactly what I ordered at a great price. Welder has worked flawlessly. Free shipping too!

Randy give this guy a call, his name is AL, and he beats most everybody's price on new gear and does service also.
