I was beginning to think that there wasn't many LC Forums out there to learn more about my rig.

This site is unique in many ways. First and foremost, it is run very well with extremely good moderators. They have done a great job of keeping tech in TECH and chat in CHAT. Second, this board is specific to Toyota products and primarily to their off-road capable vehicles. We have a great mix of guys that like to keep their rig in great mechanical condition and many that like the latest gadgets and electronics and many that like their rig to look great. The membership is diverse and you will notice that a LOT of guys have multiple vehicles; FJ40s, FJ55s, FJ60s, 80-series, 100-series, and the new FJ Cruisers.

You will also find that you don't have to stray far from 'Mud to get reliable information on other things that will interest you; Camping, expedition wheeling, hard core wheeling, off-road trips, local clubs & events, national TLCA events, guns, knives, flashlights, and the list goes on.

Your visit will remain work & family friendly unless you go to the Chat section where a group of miscreants runs rampant; burning, pillaging, and raping newbies. There are no holds barred over there so consider yourself forewarned.

Keep a sense of humour, keep focused, post factual information, and have fun. Learn to read the 80-section FAQ and search before you post relatively obvious questions (e.g. What tyres will fit?)

As far as the lift is concerned, It seems the reason the OME and Slee suspensions are preferred is due to the experience these companies have with Land Cruisers specifically. A lift kit requires a high attention to detail from an engineering standpoint in order to maintain reliability. When you start screwing around with driveline angles and steering components, you want a lift that has been very precisely engineered to maintain as close to factory specs as possible. Toyota spends untold yen to engineer the utmost reliability balanced with capability, for the majority of potential uses the vehicle will likely perform. If you alter any of these parameters in order to increase an aspect of the truck's performance, you risk compromising it's mechanical reliability. Of course, there are always tradeoffs.

So, go with a lift kit that has a proven track record with the type of vehicle you're trying to improve. Skyjacker makes lifts for many different types of vehicles, without any particular expertise with LC's, and seems to be geared toward raising the vehicles height only. The OME and Slee systems offer a balance between height, load carrying ability, and ride comfort and are definitely Land Cruiser centric. I don't know a whole lot about the Skyjacker products, but just make sure the springs are rated to accomodate the other potential accessories you might want to add later on. A roof rack, f/r bumpers, tire carrier and sliders all add significant weight to the vehicle. If the Skyjacker raises your vehicle, but doesn't include springs that can take the additional weight, your lift could sag. Or worse yet, the truck could become terribly unsafe and unstable, with increased tendency to roll.

The kit is coming with Springs and Shocks but I will see if I can stop the order and go with OME or Slee. Is one of these better than the other? I'd like to maintain a good level of comfortably along with stability. I want to keep this vehicle on the road as well as going off the road on occasion.

Not to be a smart ass but I hunt with a Bow and a Rifle not a truck. There's probably less deer being hit by hunters with a vehicle probably because we're usually always looking for them. And further more I hate seeing a deer losing it's life to a chrome bumper!

ARB's are FAR from "chrome".

A bullbar (not a brush guard) is always a good investment IMO.

Just reading over this post, I can see that you are soaking up info, heeding and respecting other members advice, and actually changing your opinions. You are ready to stop the Skycrap order and put an order in to get your 80 the "proper" suspension kit. Nice MUD member! Absorb and react, absorb and react.

Thanks for the advice guys. I just canceled the SkyJacker order and went with OME. I ordered if from 4x4 Connection. Curtis was a great help in steering me in the direction to accommodate my needs. Having a 94 like mine was even more a confidence builder too.

Now my next step is to choose Sliders for my rig. I can't wait to get rid of my rusty running boards. Any Preferences?

Did you read the FAQ section on slider selection and what sliders the forum members are running? You really need to start reading the ROTW threads to get some ideas. By searching, you will also find write-ups on other sliders that have yet to be added to the above thread. I gave you a couple of the vendors earlier; MetalTech, Hanna, and Slee both offer tube-slider and Slee also offers the step-slider. There is a very recent thread (page 1, 2, or 3) discussing the relatively new MetalTech sliders.

Sorry for jumping the gun. I should have read the FAQ postings, really good stuff by the way. I guess I was a little excited about this new found info center here. Also I have decided to go with the Hanna Sliders.

Well there's good news and bad news for me. The OME Suspension kit came today all but the front springs-they are comming from Seattle. They'll probably be here at the begining of next week. And when I place an order with Hanna for the Sliders I was told that there is a 4 to 6 week wait. Oh well I was really looking forward to seeing my rig raised without the rusty running boards. Guess I'll just have to be patient.
