Hi Guys,
I've been looking for a Good LC forum for some time now. I think I am in the right place now. About 6 months ago I picked up a 94 Cruiser and going with the good Toyota name I got in well over my head. This is my replacement for a "94" 4Runner that I was using to get back and forth to work and in and out of the woods when I Deerhunt. So far I had to replace the entire break system including rotors and some hardware. I have to say I'm hooked on the Cruiser's Beastly Attitude. I sometimes think that if I asked this truck to climb a tree it would do it. I'm getting ready to raise the Beast 2 1/2 inches with a Skyjacker Kit. If anyone has any advice on avoiding any problems please don't be shy. I'm also looking for something to replace my running boards which are pretty rusted and maybe starting to fall apart. I will need some advice there. I have found out the company that manufactured them for Toyota is no longer in business. Well that's all for now, I will definitely look forward to reading some of these postings.

Thanks for having me,
Rod

congrats and welcome!! :flipoff2:

Hi Rod! Welcome to the 80-Section here on 'Mud.

a Skyjacker Kit. If anyone has any advice on avoiding any problems please don't be shy.

Familiarize yourself with this vehicle, read the FAQ, and look over the past ROTW threads. You will find very few (none ? ) of the guys have a Skyjacker lift on an 80. Your best bet is to give the guys at Slee offroad a call and see what they recommend based on the way you plan to use your truck.

Most guys have selected OME with a few going with Slee springs and a few going with FOR (Frankie's springs.) You can get the OME kits from several vendors that specialize in the 80-Series and advertise here on 'Mud. Check them out before you buy the Skyjacker.

I'm also looking for something to replace my running boards which are pretty rusted and maybe starting to fall apart. I will need some advice there.

If you want protection then several vendors (again, 80-specific and board sponsors) offer sliders for your truck. If you want BOTH protection and steps (i.e. running boards) then Slee sells a "step-slider" that works very well. Several people have these and love them. Other slider vendors are Hanna, Metaltech, and a couple that I cannot recall.

I will definitely look forward to reading some of these postings.

You can get some great ideas from the Rig-of-the-week threads. We have been doing these for about 18 months so there should be ~70 different vehicles to look at. Lots of pictures and details on how the rigs were built up.

One more welcome! :flipoff2:

Nice pick. I think it's almost universally accepted that the 94 LC is the best LC ever produced. ;)

Oh and I second what -B- said don't go skyjacker.

Wow! Thanks for the imput. Now I'm worried, parts are already ordered. Why te the thumbs down for Skyjacker?

Yeah, go with Old Man Emu or one of the great vendors off the site for springs designed with these types of vehicles in mind. I second the notion to get sliders and get rid of the running boards. Give yourself some protection on those deerhunts.

Welcome!

ditto wolf and reffug.

Don't turn it around, tell me why! I don't know much Lift kits and this is what was sugested to me by someone that works with Jeeps. Other than that I can only go on what I know which isn't much.

Well, there ya go. Your answer is intuitively obvious to the casual observer.

I second everything that Beowulf said.

Skyjacker just doesn't seem to be very high quality, this forum is pretty good at weeding out the good stuff/bad stuff. If the Skyjacker lift was worth a darn I'm sure there'd be more than, effectively, zero rigs on this board running it (I think there might be one, but its purely a cosmetic lift if I remember correctly).

OME and Slee are proven, and many on this board will vouch for the quality of their components.

Oh yeah, welcome! :flipoff2:

We need pics too :D

So it's a matter of quality, I can understand that.

Hey by the way, this site is definitely the best site and most informative I've seen. Great job to those who are running it. I was beginning to think that there wasn't many LC Forums out there to learn more about my rig.

Does anyone know of any shops in the South Jersey area that specialize in Land Cruiser modifications?
