Anyone seen this show? They drop 2 guys in the middle of nowhere and give them a Jeep and 3 days to get back to civilization. Probably would only take a day or so if they didn't give them a Jeep. The other day They were on some glacier on a volcano and they sheered off the axle in the Jeep. Eventually they ended up taking off the wheel completely and strapping a log to the frame and under the axle and using it like a sled runner. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihmo5xFZUYk

Pretty cool show I think, it's the only thing on tv right now with any type of offrading in it. Would have been better with a cruiser IMO, but hey if nothing broke where would the entertainment be? I guess I kind of enjoy watching that idiot Wu guy destroy a heep anyway.

They should have strapped the log to the outside of the wheel and rolled home like I have seen done many times. I agree, the show is better than nothing!

But the half shaft was broken the wheel and log would have fallen off still right?

Nope, you can hold the wheel on with the log and strap it to the frame front and back.

Dan that's great info thanks.

I seen Bill Burke do it with a hi-lift jack handle. Mind you have to creep along and it helps if the handle stays lubed (mud, lithium grease, whatever you have) as it rubs the sidewall of the tire.

Thanks for the full episode links. I had not seen this one with my cut back on TV watching. :)

Oh I see it just holds the wheel and shaft into the axel housing.

I see these two morons are driving down a river when they have 20ft of land on either side. What a F-ing joke. At least these idiots are in a Jeep. Channel changed!

They were avoiding silt, which is easy to spot and hard to get stuck in :boggle:

Yeah, that last one on the mountain just made me ask "why" over and over. It's one thing to teach different techniques applicable to the terrain, but to over dramatize the "danger" they are in is just silly.

Fixing the spark plug wire with a twig and tube was just retarded when he had a roll of duct tape to keep it from grounding on the engine block.

I Didn't understand that either but I wonder if it would work like they made it out to? I don't see that working as well as it did.

As with all these type shows they over dramatize it and intentionally put themselves in dangerous positions to make the show more interesting. If they stayed in 1 place for 3 days waiting for a rescue party that wouldn't be very entertaining.

I think running electrical current through a wet stick would dry it up pretty quickly. So while it might work theoretically, practically my guess is that it would work for a few minutes at best. Then you'd have to pull the assembly apart to add water.
