I need to install a water tank and pump into my UZJ100. I don't want to get into changing out the fuel tank to make room for the combo tank by Long Ranger that fits. I really liked the setup on the Desert 80 article in the Overland Journal. I am thinking of using a "fat sack" ballast bladder from my Ski Boat, but would be interested in a poly tank that would fit behind the front row seats. Anyone know where I can find one? Where would you mount the pump? What type of tubing would you use? Any advice would be much appriciated.

Lots of info over here...

I use a poly tank, 21 gallons, and a 12v shurflo pump. I got the water tank and pump cheap off ebay, 3/8 high pressure line and hose clamps and you are good to go.

Really nothing to it.

What he said. I would go with a 12 gallon tank though. 21 gallons is a ton of weight. You can get the tanks from West Marine.

Thanks for the great advice. I picked up the Sureflow Blaster 3.5GPM at West Marine along with some fittings and a self coiling hose. The 21 Gallon Ebay Tank ($68.20) will fit nicely behind the front row when it gets here. I am still debating on where to mount the pump and outlet maybe under the front passenger seat...any ideas?

Post up pics when you get it in there, i'd like to see!

21 Gallon Tank glued to KV 5/8" shelf. Pump screwed into shelf. Plumbed. Wired via fused 10 amp DC outlet with switch. Will go behind first row when glue sets up. More pics once the glue dries.

Thanks for the encouragement and positive response! It looks a little rigged to me, but I am from West Virginia so that is typical. My rear seats are always folded and rarely used, so it is not in my way and doesn't slide around so I am pleased. Future plans may relocate the pump under the hood or chasis, but I have no wife or kids to make such a request.

The pressure is awesome. I was cleaning one of our Real Estate Book dispensers with it down in Key West yesterday and drew a crowd! People walking by said...Wow you have a hose in there?!? You carry your own water?!? I laughed and said..."Cruisers," (With a shrug) It also comes in handy when your water bottle goes dry...free refills!

Here is a shot of it in the truck.

Looking good.

If you don't use the rear seats why are they still in there?

The weight of your tank is sitting nice and low. Good stuff.

I was going to hook my water tank up to the pressure pump I have under the bonnet for my shower but the hose and tap I have on it at the moment have good flow with just gravity feed. I may still do it in the future yet. I have a bit of space behind the fridge where I could relocate the pump and maybe fit a couple of water filters as well.

Good question about those seats...I'll think about taking them out, but they really hold that tank right where it needs to be, but a strap would be much lighter. Yes, the pump works much better closer to the tank. It is supposed to be able to prime itself up to 6 feet vertical, but my testing before installation seems closer to about 2 feet.

We have a little mom and pop plumbing/electrical place down here called Keys Supply. They had most of my fittings and that tubing (more than i'll ever need for 20 bucks). I have a tube to attach to the larger fitting on the tank also, but haven't figured out where to mount the inlet yet. I am not in a big rush because the hose nozzle just fits into that inlet making filling pretty easy.

6 more payments and I may be willing to drill some holes in the body like some others have. Any ideas would be great, but in the meantime it will work as is. I just swapped all of the fluid in the diffs to synthetic today, the OME lift should be here tomorrow from Slee, gotta install the 2000w inverter, CB...this hobby is starting to get out of control.

Maybe after the lift, I can sneak that inlet in the wheel well somewhere...anyone done that?

It'd be good to place the pump outside of the vehicle in case something happens and you spring a high press leak inside! Otherwise, looks great.

Yes. I want it outside eventually. I am just not ready to drill into the sheet metal yet. In the meantime, I have it on a switch and it is on only when needed.

The setup really comes in handy quite a bit more than I thought. I am very satisfied with the convenience for around 200 bucks.

I really like the way Snook mounted his pump and fittings.
