I will probably be pulling the trigger on some suspension. I don't want anything that crazy and after trial, error and lots of thinking, my thought is that the Old Man Emu Sport are probably more than I really need or will use. Now the question comes to Heavy load or Stock load. Just wondering to those that did go this route, what did you decide, and why. Other than the family and a 2000# boat, not sure if I will need the heavy, but there is always the increased GVWR and odd time that I will be hauling something heavier or really loading up the truck.

Thoughts?

If anyone knows you should. I havent modified mine but in need to tow my 6500 lb kubota to the shop. I have a tandem axle trailer with trailer brakes but haven't equipped the 200 for the job yet. I love the soft road ride of my LC. Should I change the ride for the rare towing duty or just leave it like it is? Should i put a trailer brake controller on it? Does Toyota offer one? Should I stiffen up the rear with an OME? I don't know so I just don't do anything.

I'd set it up for your primary use. If you don't do heavy load most of the time go with the mediums. It will still work when you you load it up.

Marc,

If you pay shipping, I'll send you my OME setup. Still have it...

Tried to send PM...but your inbox is full.

chimyz,

I have the ARB constant 880 lbs "heavy" springs in the rear of mine and would not recommend them unless you are really loaded down. When unloaded it's a little bit of a harsher ride and the front end had to be raised a little to compensate for the raised rear end.

On a side note, JB any pictures of your 200 with the new shoes?

Sbly: If I decide to turn my 200 into a dedicated trail/tour rig, mine will be the white version of yours. Impeccably done from tires to roof rack.

Carl L,

If I can help just let me know. As for my truck, I wish I could take the credit for my build but to be honest it was the a combination of Iron Pig Offroad, and everything I read hear on MUD that helped me get it put together. It was guys like chimyz and JB who laid the ground work and provided a lot of the information.

Thank you, that would be most appreciated. That said I'm probably a ways off to be honest, it's just that seeing your truck fully decked out has always gets me planning.

Definitely no heavy in the rear. I think it will be the medium, which I believe is the constant 440 lbs? I can't remember, my '08 was so many trucks ago.

Thanks to JBHorne too...getting me on my way!

funny you mention this...I just blew my fron OME drivers side shock......thing is bouncing around like a old lady in a strip bar!!! :P

dtt255,

How many miles did you get out of the OME shock? Any off road miles?

An old lady in a strip club, I see you've spent some time at Camp Lejeune.

I got about 70k out of them. The others seem to be fine, but obviously I am going to replace both front shocks.

Do I do any off road miles....ummmm a few...more then a few.....hell of alot more then a few....

Chimyz, have you considered a coilover setup like Radflo or Icon? (Coilovers for the fronts and shocks only at the rear). I left my stock springs in the rear and simply added coilrite air bags for when I tow my 8000 lb boat.

With this system I get lift and firmness from the coilovers in the front for vastly improved road handling , with the comfort and smoothness from the stock rear springs - with the option to boost up the back springs when I am carrying extra load - for me the best of both worlds.

Without pumping up the bags the Radflos gave me a 2 inch lift in the front and levelled the rear.

Yes I had considered it, but thought it would be overkill for the intended use of this vehicle. Given if money was no object, I would probably go that route, but the thought that I could do all four corners for the price of one corner is taking over at the moment.
