I am looking at suspension options for my 09 GX with 108k on it. It will mostly be a daily driver, with some dirt road and rocky trail use for camping trips.

Right now, my build out plan is a dual battery and hidden winch in the front, cabinetry and a fridge (a basic kitchen setup) in the back, and 33s. The cabinetry with probably live full time in the back. We're trying to keep it somewhat stock looking on the outside, even if we're tinkering around underneath the chassis and under the hood.

I am leaning toward a medium OME setup (since I won't be adding much armor) to get me started with a bit more clearance and room for 33s. However, I frequently read that the OME setup rides harsh without a bit of load in the back to smooth the ride. When people say "you need some weight in the back", how much weight is that? If I have a 125 lbs of drawers, shelves, recovery gear, and tools in the back, will that do it, or are we talking more like 400lbs of supplies for a weeklong overland trip?

I think you'll be fine with the medium springs. I have the heavy springs and weight is definitely a prerequisite.

I have medium springs on mine and usually only have a roofrack, fridge, some camping gear, and recovery gear when off road. I have driven it without any of that and I still think its fine. Over all it drives like a truck more so than stock. You're welcome to take it for a test drive some time if you want.

about +200, stock weight the medium OME springs are pretty stiff.

If you're not set on OME, you might give the Dobinsons a look. I've got a TON of happy folks running around in their gas kit. They run $865

Thanks Kyle!

Dobinson was another option I was looking at. I live near a ski mountain, and my road is littered with stuck cars, broken cars, and all manner of poor decision-making from about, well, now until May. I pulled two cars out just last weekend, so I keep recovery gear in there full time (I try to keep my Karma up.) The cabinets I'm building will run about 100lbs themselves, then I will have that recovery kit and some other tools in there. I probably won't get to 200 lbs, but there will definitely be additional weight back there. I'm trying to find something that will ride well with that bit of extra weight as a DD, but also have enough to handle a kitchen setup, a water tank (desert trips), and our camping gear for weekend trips. I'm guessing 125-150lb DD, but more like 250-350 while camping.

I figured I'd start with OME first, since I'm local to Cruiser Outfitters here in Utah, and that's what they have experience with and run on their GX. All things equal, having local shop support is a big pull for me. I'm going to check out the ride in the OME, and I'll reach out to you next! Thanks!

You'll probably be OK with that kind of weight as long as it's constant. if you want to move another direction holler atcha boy
