i just about to oredr an ome kit for my 83 fj60 and have a few questions. the guy at the parts counter told me that the following items were all i would need to complete the job, less the beer.

front and rear springs and shocks
spring bushing kit
front and rear U bolts
steering damper
front and rear shackles

do i need a pitman arm, extended brake lines, shims etc.?
also...who makes a good front end kit for the 60?

let me know if i should post pics of the works in progress.
thanks in advance for the help.

It sounds like you have all you need. You won't really need extended brake lines for a regular OME lift. I got some just in case, but I haven't mounted them yet and the stock brake lines are plenty long. I got my entire OME lift kit from Kurt at www.cruiseroutfitters.com. You may want to give him a call. He knows his stuff.

thanks for the help...how do you like the lift? im pretty sure i am going to go with the heavy springs...any advice on heavy vs medium?

med vs. heavy - depends.

I too just got my Dakar kit from Kurt. And I am a very happy customer, he was great to work with. I told him what mods I have for my truck, the type of wheelin' I do and stuff like that. He helped guide me in the right direction.

I have an ARB with a winch, and getting a rear bumper tire carrier. with that extra weight and other stuff I might carry, I chose the heavy (not the extra heavy). I really really really like the ride now. The other springs I have just weren't rated for that extra weight. It almost felt like the front end would 'dive' into corners.

If you have the stock bumpers, no winch and don't carry much weight, I might recommend the med. leafs.

HTH

as of now i have stock bumpers but am looking for someone to build me a good, stout front and rear bumper...so im thinking of going with the heavy springs.

I've got the heavy kit and I love it. It's a bit bumpy as of right now, but I planned ahead for a future long range gas tank and rear bumper tire carrier and roof rack. I am a very satisfied customer and I've ordered numerous things from Kurt since.

If you're going with bigger bumpers, I'd probably suggest the heavy kit...just my 2 cents.

did you use the "anti-inversion" shackles? if so what do you think about them, do they have to be welded?

Yeah, I've got the heavy in rear and it's a little stiff. Problem is, I hardly ever have it loaded down so that's how it goes 99% of the time.

Is it difficult to mod it back to medium in the rear?

zcruiser, I think the only thing you need to do is change the leaf springs in the back to the medium version. You can probably keep the shocks as they are. Not too hard...

Kewl. Anyone wanna swap med for my heavy?

zcruiser:
just to point you in the right direction, I think you can remove a leaf from the rear to soften up the ride. That way you can swap back to a heavy set-up if you ever add more weight. Sorry, can't give you more details because I've not done it myself. hth

check out the info at cruiser outfitters regarding individual springs from ome

it goes something like this

meduim spring
medium spring + add a leaf = heavy spring
heavy spring + another add a leaf = extra heavy

so, figure out which is the added leaf in your pack, remove it, and you'll literally have the meduium springs

Excellent!

thanks for the advice guys

Yeah, but it's more meaningful coming from you somehow... Care to clue me in as to which leaf? The bottom one?
