When it comes to stiffness, how do OME mediums compare to stock?I really want heavies, but found a used set of mediums with front shocks for $250...kinda hard to pass up.

OME mediums are lot more stiff than stock. Changes the ride completely IMO. I've had this lift for a few years, works great, with some stink bug when not loaded.

Are you planning on adding adding a front bumper and winch? Rear bumper and armor ? If so, heavies might be the way to go. Lot of guys in our club run J's and heavies, so you might want to look into that.

I'm sure someone will chime in with more pro's and cons

We need to know which ones your talking about. OME 850, 860, 851, 863, 863J........ This is the number that tells us what springs your looking at and also tells us the rating and lift.

We will need this info and how much cargo weight you think you might be carrying to give you a honest assessment of the medium/heavy spring and the ride you can expect.

Just buy them and put them on and:steer:. If you outgrow them you will be able to sell them for what you paid anytime you want. I think many people associate the coils as the big change in ride, but most replace completely worn shocks at the same time and then come here and tell everyone the ride is crazy stiff. Don't get me wrong, coils alter ride stiffness, but the shocks contribute greatly. I put heavies on my truck, front and rear, I have all the extra stuff up front (bumper, winch, dual batteries, high lift) and the back is stock. I think the ride is fine.
Now go buy those coils and put them on fast. Everyone reading this post is trolling craigslist in your area trying to find them:grinpimp:

Which model is the heavies (the website doesn't make it very clear)? Can you still run stock struts with the heavies? I added the 861 and 862's which are great but a little soft when loaded with 350lb of gear, atleast on paved road.

Would the stiffer ride affect the 4x4ing ride when the vehicle is unloaded?

850/863 is what is typically called the heavy combo. 851/860 is the medium. 861/862 is stock height.

The only difference between the 850 and 851 front springs is that the 850s are an inch taller. There is a nice table on the cruiser outfitters site with all of the OME spring heights and spring rates.
