Just FYI...

I have a MAF Safari lift. Intalled 3 yrs ago. Started to sag a bit, and especially with heavy load in rear. Installed short AAL in rear. No more sag - but very harsh ride. Found out that OME makes a variety of AAL's. After some consultation with various suspension vendors, selected a OME rear AAL that suits my needs. Works great. (Way better than the short AAL). Nice, firm ride. Decided to do the same to the front. Also love the improvement. It's stiffer, but in a controlled way. Not crude. Make sure to ask questions, as there are different leafs, and you want to select the one that makes sense for your needs.

Avg prices works out to the following:
short AAL's - $25 per pair (I have a pair for sale - make offer)
long AAL's - $50 per pair
Long OME AAL's - $95 per pair

Like most things - the more you pay, the more you get!!!

I got about 1.5" lift in the rear, and 1" in the front. Subtle rake, looks good.

the long add-a-leafs in the rear, whats entailed to install them?
hammer
new springs, but same old lady sag.

Install jackstands under frame, to let suspension drop free.
Remove shocks
Remove ubolts
Jack axle up off of spring pack.
Remove nut on bottom of spring pin (use c-clamp to hold leafs together while removing pin)
Remove all but top two leaves.
OME leaf becomes the #3 leaf.
Reinstall lower leaves (use c-clamps again)
Reinstall spring pin nut, u-bolts, shocks.

You should use new u-bolts.
You may need a longer spring pin.

Ya, the long AAL's from MAF and others are cheaper, but the OME's fit in like they were engineered specifically to fit the fj60 spring pack (which they were). Cost/benefit is a personal thing of course, but the OME AAL's are a nice option to consider, though not often mentioned.

yess off course dude .. I have OME suspension in my HJ-60 and I'm very very happy with this .. I thought OME AAL's are designed to do specific job with the rest of all other leaves on the OME pack.

i'm looking at MAF's web site, and i cant find the add-a-leafs talked about here. i see long ones for, like, 50 bucks pair.

I have a few add-a-leafs in the Pinni-poo suspension (Pinnical Springs, from JT-Out-of-town-gonna-rip-you-off). I got away with 2 add-a-leafs/ pack because the Pinni-poo springs were so wipped and soft after just 1 1/2yrs. Make sure you use new U-Bolts. The man-a-fre add-a-leafs come with new long center pins which is nice.

i see the 50 buck a pair, but not the 95 buck ones.
are they different, and do i have to remove some leafs, no matter what?

PART NUMBER DESCRIPTION PRICE
40412K ADD-A-LEAF KIT E-1990 24-INCH $36.95 PAIR
60412K ADD-A-LEAF KIT E-1990 46-INCH $42.95 PAIR

Listed above are the add-a-leafs I run. 2 Longs/ spring pack in the front and 1 long/1 short per spring pack in the rear. The springs fit pretty well. I think they may be 1/10th of an inch narrower, but they work just fine.

You will need to take apart the leaf pack in order to add the additional leaf. It's not hard at all. Just have a nice set of clamps or vices to compress the springs when you're putting them back together.

OME does make good add-a-leafs, but they make specific ones for what springs you are using. Of course they will work with other brand springs, but OME does have a system for them. For example, if you own the OME-113A or B rear springs, the add-a-leaf you should use is OME-113AXL for the driver side, and OME-113BXL for the passenger side. These in particular go for about $60.00 each. Our add-a-leafs, are pretty much a good "cheap" addition to a sagginf spring pack. I usually reccomend the longer version, they ride much better than the short ones. We also sell the OME add-a-leafs for people who want those as well.

I've never seen them listed on-line. Couldn't find them in the ARB website either. I had to call and ask for them.

up to you .. if you want remove leaf ( replace ) to put your AAL's. In my case before I bought the OME my idea was replace leaf to get a soft suspension.

I think I have OME AALs... The guy I bought mine from is an ardent OME advocate and ex-dealer and said he installed one on the front.

Here is a pic. Remember this is on a diesel with a factory PTO winch. I looked through the parts fiche to tell which is the OME, but I can't tell.

I assume you're referring to the bottom leaf...no clue if it's an OME AAL or not, but it's not the AAL I purchased (part no's SteveO referenced above). Mine look like the upper (longer) leafs.
