I would think to start there. The system is supposed to advance the timing for you with the DUI dizzy correct?

Correct. There is no vacuum advance on the dizzy. It’s computer operated as I understand

Check the following-

Dist 180 out or not. Some cars will run like this.
Plug wires oriented correctly.
Timing is set properly relative to the almighty BB.
Spark plugs are nice and snug.

Just a good ‘mightaswell

Timing was off. It’s running smooth now.

I gotta get a radiator cap.

I have to chase down a manifold/adapter leak that’s causing this high pitched noise you hear in the background but it’s just purring away seating the new motor.

My mechanic friend suggested I let it Idle for 15 minutes and then let it cool good to oil the new motor.

Good news is, I should be able to chase this down pretty easily on Friday and start driving it some.

Ive isolated the leak to the base of the adapter with some targeted carb cleaner. I don’t remember what kind of gasket was there. May be a Toyota paper carb gasket. If so I’ll replace that with RTV to cover and inconsistencies

I buttoned up the engine bay.

Installed the grommet. Installed the washer res. Installed the snorkel tube.

So screw it. Why wait till Friday. Red is out of town. Let’s find this leak.

I found a new carb/intake gasket that was much thicker and installed on super clean surfaces.

I filled the screw holes with RTV, installed the paper and RTVed the edges all around.

I wonder if Ramflex makes a thick intake/carburator gasket? These thin paper ones are just not very good for mating these old parts with new parts.

I can't wait to get this thing out on the road a bit so I can give the EFI a real review. It is really smooth. No secondary to open if you floor it, just a nice even power band. Of course, it is still a 135-40 HP motor pushing a big block of non-aerodynamic steel.

3 weeks and $7000 later, we are on the road again.

Nolan you know what? I think I might have had this issue as well. I vaguely remember the countersunk bolts for the adapter were too long and bottoming out in the intake. Any possibility you're having same issue?

This is a yes. They were just flush. I added RTV to seal them.

When I get more gaskets from AFI I will cut them down a hair and retry.

I just drove it a bit. My computer is figuring out the fueling. The idle is settling in lower each start.

I can say this for certain. I’ve never driven a 2F this smooth.

My oil pressure gauge is spiked high. I need to go buy a tester
