I was rooting through some boxes i packed up 10 years ago and came upon this keepsake.
It belonged to my grandfather, who was, I believe, a Quantity Surveyor in England.
He died during WW2 when his ship, a Corvette, was torpedoed by a German aircraft. That was in a harbour in the Aegean Sea somewhere. When the war started in England he was drafted. He chose the navy because he liked sailing.
It came into my possession about 15 years ago when my Grandmother died. It is probably 90 years old so.
I still see European carpenters on job sites occasionally that use them.Being raised in Canada I of course use a tape measure.
