I'll try and post a pic of a Devilbiss air compressor I came across a guy wants to sell. It came out of Continental Can in Olympia, and the story goes it was a backup, and didn't get much use. The guy selling it now, bought it from a maintenance man there. It was 3 phase, and now has a new 5 hp single phase motor. It has $200 in new valves. The guy says he has $500 in it, and that is what I could buy it for. It seems like a good deal to me. Here is what it looks like. I think this one has a 15 hp motor, but the rest looks the same size. I believe it's a 80 gallon tank?

Make sure that you can try it before you buy it. Swapping a 3 phase 15 hp motor for a 5hp single phase one is going to have a dramatic effect on output. Assuming that it will even spin the compressor at its rated pressure, it will seriously limit the CFM. It will only pump as much air as any other 5hp compressor.

yeah, what Pin head said.

The pump on there would be 445
The smallest recommended HP is 7.5hp @ 445 rpm

I wouldnt go below 400 rpm if I was you. some units have min
rpm stamped on the same tag as the model number.

The reason I wouldnt go below 400 or whatever is stated on the tag is .. Lubrication... this unit is splash lubed.

Wow, thanks for the good information. When I get home from Mazatlan I'll check the pump model number. Like I said, it looks very similar to the picture above. I'm wondering if they made a smaller 3 phase model?

I bought an old Speedaire that looked like Tony Stark built in the back of cave. It's incredibly well made. Old compressors rule.
