I took the plunge and got an '08 FJC. The new colors for '08 pushed me over the edge and I couldn't resist. I had always said that if they ever came out in a beige I would jump on it in a minute, and I am a man of my word! I have had it for a week, and I love it! I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a lift and new tires, so it will look a little more sexy soon. I plan on using it for DD duties and for towing the 40 on long trips. Wheeling will be in it's future some day (don't tell my wife though!).

Looking forward to watchng her grow up.:flipoff2:

Sweeeeet!!!
I was in Indy the weekend of the Patriots game and saw one identical to yours at the dealer at 96th and Keystone. I thought of you because i remember you talking about that color on the FJC when we were at the Hoedown. So, was it yours that I was looking at?

Actually I almost bought one from that dealer, Butler, 2 weeks earlier. They wouldn't deal with me at all, and they eventually pissed me off by keeping my keys hostage and trying to force me to stay when I wanted to leave. I ended up buying mine at O'Brien where Ron's brother works, and they treated me right. They found the exact truck I wanted with the correct options and gave me $2K off of the list price! I am going to try to work out a discount with their parts department for the club since I would rather support them than Butler.

I loooove a discount!
I have had to go to the Toyota dealer in Fort Wayne twice and they are VERY "proud" of their parts. A discount w/ UPS to my door would probably be cheaper.

So Clint, you have a 40, 45, 80 and a FJC...not to shabby!!!

Clint, Congrats on the purchase!!! I'm glad I'm not the only one with an FJC in the club.

O'Brien has treated me well for about nine years now. I bought my FJC from them and they have serviced my 4Runner, 80, and now the FJC. Parts has been really nice to me as well.

Can't wait to see the sandstorm in person.

Damn Clint. Nice!

Nice truck wish I could talk the wife into getting one (would make a nice hand-me-down to me later). You didn't opt for the factory sliders?

Later,
Chad P.

I had been watching the FJC market and forums for a little while, and I decided to buy a base model with options that I want and then add aftermarket items later. By keeping the initial purchase cheap, I can easily add what I want sooner than later. This is an auto with electric rear locker and a few convenience options. The truck is pre-wired for ATRAC and to get it it is only a $45 switch to add. To get a package that included ATRAC I would have had to spend another $1500 for a bunch of other stuff I didn't want like alloy rims and tires I wanted to change anyway. The upgraded stereo which I didn't get is okay, but I was going to change to a Pioneer AVIC-3 navigation unit anyway. I like the way the steel rims look, kinda old school, and I am going to lift it and add 33's. Carl and I are going to work on sliders and a front bumper soon to help him develop a product line for his shop and help get the truck to where I want it.

I ended up paying just over $25K, and I think it's an excellent value for what you get. There's a ton of power, lots of room, same towing capacity of my 80 and classic looks. The gas mileage is much better than the 80 too, and with the way gas is going that's a big plus. :grinpimp:

Clint...Do you have any kids? How do they like the backseat? Is the interior room a lot less than the 80? I'm going to get rid of the my 80 and either get one of these or 100 series but I think the FJ would do better on gas and be new. I just have to pack 2 kids and a dog in there for trips.

No kids...by choice. I think the backseat is plenty big enough since I rode in the back of the Trail Team's rigs multiple times and was very comfortable (I'm 6'1" 240). It seems to be a little better than the 2nd row of an 80. The driver's seat also has better legroom than an 80 for me. The dog could ride in the rear cargo area and have plenty of room. Dbl Blk could proabably answer more definitively since he has two adorable little ones. The FJC is definitely better on MPG than a 100 series. My wife test drove a '07 100 series when I was looking at the FJC and it was ~7 MPG worse IIRC. Both are very fast, but the 100 definitely wins in a race. For eventual off road, the FJC would win for me. HTH.

That is Flippin Awesome, Clint. I am a big fan of black steelies. I think you made wise choices in purchasing base, and upgrading later with your own personal touches. Love the color. I didn't know you had an 80 also... (Thats my favorite/dream rig) Your my HERO. Later. Tony.

I've got 5 year old twins. The leg room is fine for them. It seems to me to be a little less than my old 80. The back end holds my two large labradors. The only drawback for the labs is that they can't hold there heads out of any windows like they could in the 80. Cargo area is definately smaller than the 80. Overall, we like the FJC better than the 80. I still want a '97 80 some day, but for daily use we really like the FJ.

The only other drawback is the suicide doors on the FJ. It's good if you don't want your kids just diving out of the car on their own. It stinks if you want our son to run back in the house real quick. I also don't like the doors in a tight parking lot, but we park out away from other cars as much as possible.

As far as trips go, I have a small trailer that I tow for long trips when I take the dogs. I looked into a roof box but decided to get the trailer instead.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

I agree that the doors open very wide. It's nice for getting in and out, but in a tight spot, you have to watch that they don't open into another vehicle.
