hello from some time ago there was a group bracket buy of a bracket for the replacement of the tow hook. What size or type bolt did most use for this?? I'm located in the wonderful rust section of the northeast and trying to get the best possible replacement bolts. thanks

Goodluck with that. He said it might be a while before he can get them done. Every now and then I have seen some people sell them on here

are your bolts shot? as far as size, can't you take one out and measure it? The nuts are captured IIRC so you'd want to reuse the same size bolt presumably. As to length, it would depend on what you plan to put in instead of the OEM hook, if anything. The thread is fine I think and the bolt size a bit unusual. Couldn't find any of the bolts locally but they can of course be bought from your Toy dealer.

sorry i guess I should have been more specific; I have the bracket but the bolt would need to be much longer! I wanted to see if anyone had a good suggestion (hopeful from home depot) for a bolt type. I will try to send spressmon a message the bolt that is in there now is to short. I have lots of rust developing and wanted something that would be long lasting if thats possible

I haven't thought about these in a while so it's not fresh in my head, but I posted details on bolt size and hardware here:
https://forum.ih8mud.com/showpost.php?p=6385482&postcount=362

Here's the summary of what to order (per bracket) and at the time I think it was ~$15 per bracket with shipping:
Quantity of 2: M14x1.5x80mm Class 10.9 Bolts
Quantity of 2: M14 Flat Washer 300HV

I believe I ordered all my hardware from belmetric.com and they might not have listed the 300HV washers but had them when I called. I spoke with Tony at the time and they were great to work with and apparently they supplied to the likes of Fastenal (which charged way more for the same thing).

You will not find these bolts (fine thread and class 10.9) at the likes of a home depot.

Also I believe it was a minimum of 80mm in length if you're replacing the stock tow hooks but if you have aftermarket bumper etc you may need longer.

PM'd. What bumper are you running? If its an ARB Combo bar you're out of luck as the FRBv1 will not fit. Ditto for ARB Sahara and Ironman bumpers as you'd need a 110-120mm bolt and I don't recommend bolts this long.

The original FRBv1 I designed and offered were made from 6061-T6 and mil-spec hard anodized (black). The version you show was either sourced from calamaridog or agaisin, apart of a production run they did on their own, as they had them made from some type of steel.

If your rig has significant corrosion there is a good chance the integrity of the captive nuts and/or the steel around the captive nuts on your frame are strength compromised. Remember...the brackets are just one link in the system which includes captive nuts and the material they are supported by. You may need, for reliable strength in a recovery event, to cut the front of the frame off (just a thin cap that's been welded in place); remove the OEM captive nuts and insert a suitably sized piece of 3/8" minimum thickness plate acutely beveled on each end with plain nuts welded onto the plate. This will strengthen the recovery bracket "system" along with distributing the potential load over a larger surface area.

Think worst case and you'll not be unpleasantly surprised or worse: Seriously hurt or maimed.

woa you guys are scarring me! I am currently running factory bumper (not enough money for slee bluberry yet). I have some rust not really rusted out! frame etc look good the factory bolts for the tow hook look good also no real rust (its pouring rain out now so I can't take pick will post tomorrow) Funny thing it that factory skid plates have significant rust on the attachment points those will be replaced soon with slee steal ones.

yes I think they were from calamaridog.
