Ok what the hell is up with the metal surrounding our windows?

I was cleaning my car today and used a microfiber towel to clean the metal surrounding the windows. After a barely rough rub, there were very obvious scratches all across the metal. How the hell does a Microfiber towel scratch that up? Is there some type of metal polish I can use to get rid of them? I'm just surprised at how weak that metal is for a CLEAN microfiber towel to put scratches all over it...also don't know what the hell I'm going to polish it with since microfiber towels are the softest towels you can get for cars >.<

Ok...so how do I get rid of scratches? I noticed that if I just ran my fingernail across the friggin' thing is makes scratches...any ideas?

Take it in the woods, scratch the hell out of the entire truck and

yep go on a singletrack road....get some scratches on it......the vanity-scratches will numb you to the smaller ones so when you wax it you will always have one or two and it will officially be an offroad vehicle not a mall cruiser. LOL

on my Indian i dinged the paint replacing headers the first week I had her....was mad as hell. It is still there...never fixed it. Reminder to take my time especially when sweating like pig with slippery tools and short on patience in heat......plus it made me not stress about dings and stuff from stones on highway or other little things non mechanical.

I think its just a vinyl wrap. If you take it to toyota they can re apply it. I know because my friend got hers a few weeks ago and it was scratched and they fixed it with vinyl wrap!

Right. This is not a scratch that would look anything like a clumsy mistake on a trail. Anyway, I'm going to try mothers back to black..I'm wonder how easy it is to replace the vinyl overlay...I believe this is it ToyotaPartSales.com

So it's pretty cheap to buy new overlays...I just have no clue on how to safely get them off. That stuff is beyond weak though. My brother ran his finger nail across it today and it scratched...there has to be a simple way to get them out.

Wheel it or park it ...but Mothers makes a good product that will hide it some, if it really still bugs you try some fine rubbing compound or hit up your local detail shop and ask for suggestions their usually cool with sharing a few secrets

Don't quite understand why more than 75% of the replies were silly such as "go scratch it up off-roading" and what not. When I do off-road, I make sure to know the trail, and protect my investment. Would in the hell would I damage the cosmetic appearance of my vehicle on a trail? That is one thing I will never get, even more so when this is my daily driver. If an I see an FJ Cruiser with dents and scratches all along in vehicle, I don't think "Hey, that's a serious off-roader" I think, "Wow, that guy really didn't scope out what he was going on before traversing forward, must be clumsy or not care".

I don't think that anyone here is saying go scratch it up by being stupid and careless. Minor cosmetic injuries are bound to happen out on the trail regardless of how careful you are. There are many here that have posted some great and informative info for you. I hope that you can appreciate it

I wasn't talking about the people who posted helpful information, I am thankful for that information. I was talking about having to read through the thread trying to FIND those useful posts under all the "go out and drive it and get it scratched up so it won't bother you" gibberish. Clearly people who say that must know that what they just said is in no way helpful, or remotely solving the question at hand...so why bother posting?

I scratch doesnt have to be a clumsy mistake on the trail. Trees and brush that reach sheetmetal on certain trails have given my 60 more scratches then any "clumsy mistake".

If you have it replaced at the dealer, I am sure you will be there over and over. I dont know what the answer is, other than maybe a Mother's or Meguiers (sp?) product.

Lol. Ok. One question...interrior seats...what is the best product to use in cleaning them? I've been driving the FJ for a year now with the windows down 90% of the time, and my BLACK seats are almost yellow since so much pollen has settled into them...any ideas? I don't like going around testing random products so if anyone here has had good luck with one...

Ahh, My kind of question I use the bissel carpet cleaning solution in my steam cleaner. I have three kids and dirt food and who knows what else come right off the seats. I know you can use it with a rag and soak in 50/50 solution of the carpet cleaner and water. Rub it on the seats good. It really works!

That simple eh? Thanks. Oh yeah I just got done painting my sliders...again. Before I used Rustoleum flat-black...actually a bit too "gloss black" for me....and it seemed to scratch very easily. So I decided to use a promoter and go back over it with Flat-Textured (which I used on my interrior and exterior during blacking out) I have to say...they look WAY better. The texture look just fits the sliders. It went on incredibly smooth to...guess it helps when it's 96 degrees outside and the paint gets cooked on within 5 minutes due to the blazing sun

Just noticed how well that Mother FX wax is doing...perfecto reflections woot.
