OK wfd175, let's see some pics of the new Toy

1980 Sheriff Dept Vehicle. 57K documented miles. Man-a-Fre 4+, 4 speed. Perfect interior with the exception of headliner which was removed to patch antenna holes in roof. No rust. Always stored inside. Confiscated by FBI on a raid of a military group in Arkansas in 1990. Given to Local Sheriff. 2 owners. Original six.
Disk Brakes.
All electrical works, even the seat belt dinger reminder dinger.

I actually like the ever so slightly darker flat primer color than the oem color. I'm going to have the top primered the same color and seal with a flat or satin clearcoat for now.

No Rust anywhere. The tub was primed to removed the sheriff dept markings and fix a dent on the drivers side rear corner. Interior, (flooor only) is rhinolined. No dents or rust repair on floor. It actually looks nice.

Special thanks for Toyminator for hauling it back for me. Nothing like having the right equipment for the job.

WOW. Very nice.

That thing is perfect - I'm still jealous!

Power steering and/or A/C?

I see it also got the primo spot in the garage - how does the :princess: feel about that?

the list of no's

no p/s
no a/c

No rust
hardly no miles
no oil leaks
no electrical issues
no kidding
no big $

With respect to the garage parking issue. No big deal plenty of room, the 40 makes the bier wagen
look better. What's the opposite of a rose between two thorns?

Well said. And might I suggest adding to that list:

no reservation required for fellow mudders to borrow anytime :grinpimp:

Oh well, there's always hope.

I'm working through the "Classic Car" insurance process right now. Does anyone have any experience?

Miescha, I'll be at the lake this weekend. Call me and I'll give you the security code. Take it for a spin. It actually drives nice.

Oh shoot, you're out of town.

The only thing I noticed "wrong" or possibly incorrect is the steering linkage on the drivers side is right next to the shock absorber. I'm going to call Man a Fre when they open to inquire. It has the Safari 4" rock crawler suspension, with OME shocks and spring reversal. I played with it yesterday after the Supercross track at the fair when the races were over. It articulates really nice on 3-4' tall whoops. No rubbing issues.

Thanks for the generous offer. I'm leaving today to start heading home, but looks like I won't be there until Saturday at the earliest (I better call the kennel and tell them not to bathe the dog for a Wednesday pickup).

As a result of your purchase (yes, I'm blaming you and I keep telling my wife it is all your fault and I have to keep up with the standards you set), I'm heading over to Wisconsin just south of Duluth to look at a cruiser I found on Craigslist (pic below).

Then, I'm heading north into Canada to look at a 1982 BJ42 with a 3b diesel and 4speed tranny that started life in Canada and was purchased by a local here who I met this week. He has it in a shed/barn at his place up in Canada. 21,xxx KM and he claims no rust (so I assume at least some rust given the weather in the area), plus he said it was black which I don't believe was an original color for the BJ42. He's asking $7,500 so even though I have no pics of that one his price and description sounded worth the drive (well, not to my wife so they will be staying at a water-park/hotel in Duluth while I make the drive north alone).

Joe:

Looks great! Quite a step up from the one in the Central West End I looked at with you.

And the funny thing was I don't believe he would have sold it for less than 7500. Even better yet was the POS in Wright City I looked at. It was "98% finished", "18K invested", "new" flat tires. I wouldn't be suprised if someone kicked the crap out of him.

I had the inspection done today. One of the brake lines had a crack in it and the local toy dealer wouldn't pass it. I ordred a complete set of ss extended BL's and I have 20 days to get them put on before I lose my $12.

I haven't gone over it completely yet. It does drive nice. A little bouncy compared to the 80. I've driven about 100 miles. The choke really isn't necessary, it starts right up. I need to have the brew crew come over and go over it with me. The dealer said it looked outstanding up on the rack. No leaks etc..All of the dash light work. I can't figure out how to make the defrost blow. I need to look under the dash.

The dash pad is covered by a rubberized cover. I'm looking for a replacement pad if anyone has one lying around.

Hey Joe,
Perrrrfect truck, Try Hagerty insurance. I have an agreed value
on my 1970 Monte Carlo. You will have to send in pics of the
truck, tell them it is being stored in locked garage.
Cheap, also you might want to look into historic plates. One
time inspection and send your paper work to Jeff City, and
you are covered for life, you will still have personal prop tax.
George
