I am having problems and need some advice. My oil pressure gage isn't working so we replaced the gage and reconnected the wires to the sending unit incorrectly - accidently connected it to the spade instead of the correct part, and the gage immediately pegged out. We left it like this for about a day then reconnected it correctly and then the gage didn't work at all. We replaced the sending unit and still nothing. Did we ruin the gage or what else could it be? Any advice would be appreciated.

what he said. Those can oftentimes be very sensitive to load. especially incorrect load. You might need another...

Check your fusable links coming off of the battery positive post. There are two white connectors with three wires between them. You may find one of those has burnt open. Use a DVM to buzz them out. When you connected them incorrectly (as I have at one time! :), it grounded the 12v supply to the guages. These links come in different sizes and you'll need to replace it with one of the same. Most car manufactures use these as a means of last resort for protecting the vehicles wiring. They are designed to burn out and break open if too much current goes through them. Good luck!

Your gauge, I am sorry to say, is FRIED :frown:

Unfortunately when hooked up to the grounding spade and then operated for any length of time, the gauge gets shorted out. Only solution is to replace. Try www.cruiserparts.net for a good price on a used one.

Been there, done that.....

Your gage is toast even though it may read the correct resistence. I did the same incorrect hook up and then pulled the dash and tested the gauge. It tested perfect. When I removed the gauge it was actually melted a bit and deformed (you can't see the damage until you completely remove the gauge from the dash).
