Ok, I took my oil pan off, cleaned off all of the old gasket residue until both the pan and the engine block were nice and smooth. (huge pain in the butt) So now I have my new one piece oil pan gasket and a tube of permatex. I have a question though. My new gasket has a break in the corner, can I still use it or should I get a new one? Also, any advice or tricks you learned while putting the new one on would be greatly appreciated. I know this isn't rocket science but I don't want to do anything wrong. Thanks

I take it that the gasket isn't brand new, or there would be no break. Rubber gaskets typically don't need silicone, but I would probably use some anyway and it can probably make up for the break in the gasket, but it's no gauranty. The grey RTV has the highest oil resistance available, I'd use that. You probably won't find it at Wal Mart, but its available at any parts store.

I used an OEM cork one piece. Very thick, nice gasket. Using perma-tex copper+ I lightly spread it on the pan, pressing the gasket in place perfectly until it dries. This takes about 5 minutes. Then the gasket stays in place while you put the pan up. Just be sure the ends around the crank go into the channels properly...Don't over torque it...Check it after 100 miles or so. Good to go. Any permatex product will work, just the copper+ dries fast. .Thats my $0.02 worth.

I used string and tied up every other hole or so then put the pan on,put bolts through the empty holes pulled the string out and then proceeded to put the other bolts in.It worked like a champ.I don't realy like using silicon on gaskets although a lot of people seem to do it with good luck. I took a picture but am experiencing technical difficulties in the picture department.

Used the Toyota factory gasket, and a tube of their gasket goo to put in the corners.

Had to use a file and round the corners just a tad on the cork gasket, but very pleased with the results.

No leaks a year later

Ya you sure can.....go to the local parts store and get what they call Indian Head.....you can use that to glue the gasket back together and use it in the place of the permatex.

Ya the string is what I do.
