Read on either the 40 board or this one about oil pan bolts being loose. This captured my interest as I had noticed that the metal panel (below the spark plugs) on the PS was leaking, and mostly becuase the bolts were really loose. I tighten them to spec, and no more leaks. I've seen some leakage at the rear of my engine for quite awhile, and assumed it was the rear main seal. When I read about loose oil pan bolts though, I went and checked. Spec is 61 in/lbs, none of mine were even close. Most took 2-3 full turns to get to factory spec. Have no clue whether this will make a difference in oil consumption, since I just did it a few hours ago, but thought some of you might want to check this simple thing. Who knows, maybe my rear main is OK?

Best Regards,

Did the same thing on my sons fj80 and the oil pan bolts took a lot of tightning. Stoped that pesky drip, drip, drip.

That cleared up my leaks pretty well, too. It took a few days for it to prove it's self, as there was oil welled up in weird places and continued to drip off.

Next, all I need to find where the transmission/transfer case is leaking and, hopefully, tighten a few bolts for a fix. (wouldn't that be the greatest?)
