Hey Folks, today my 97 fzj80 started experiencing some hesitation when first stepping on the accelerator, and then it also was slow to crank on later in the day.

I see some oil on the radiator hose/alternator so research has me thinking its probably the dizzy. So I took off the cap today, and not sure if I have the shaft seal leak, or what.

Any help would be appreciated.

Distributor o-ring and valve cover gasket are likely culprits for your oil leaks.

In the absence of more information, I'm going to go with battery dying for your slow crank issue.

What do you think is causing the loss of power in the first touch of the accelerator?

All the above. Learn to use the Search function, try common oil leaks in this forum, been discussed 1147 times IIRC.

TIP: if you clean the distributor use Electronics cleaner, do not blast it with Carburetor or Acetone-type Brake cleaner,
those solvents can damage rubber seals.

The grime on the timing cover may also be coming from, at least in part, the Oil Pump Cover (do a search using those terms + leak).

You'll find if you do a search there are other causes (often all at the same time if preventive maintenance is not up to date).
