I have a question for you seasoned Cruiser owners. After reading many threads on oil / filters I figured the best was to go was a Toyota filter. I went to the parts department and got a filter that was half the size of what is currently on my 60. I asked the parts man and he said Toyota is making the filters smaller now. Did I get the right filter?

Yes, grasshopper, you got the right filter. Eons ago, when Pigs ruled the earth, the large oil filters were all that were available, But Mr. T, in his infinite wisdom created a smaller filter that worked better and left more room for big hands.
All Praise Mr T.

Any aftermarket filter can be cross referenced to this smaller filter?

c-dan still has the large filters. I think that NAPA cruiser filters are the same size as the big Toyo ones. I've heard their top level filters are high quality. I dunno

Cruiser Dan works at American Toyota, in NM, Phone is 1-800-432-6668 ext. 8 A really knowledgeable parts man

I'm Just curious about the small ones. The regular sizes I can get Toyota, Wix, Fram, Mobil One, Purolator, and K&N.

I would not know. All of my oil filters say "TOYOTA" on them.

The Toyota filter is also a Ford filter, the equivalent of a Fram PH8A, although I would use anything before I'd use the Fram, their numbering sytem seems pervasive. Ironicly, now that I have a remote filter and oil cooler for my Chevy engine, I'm back to the very same filter that the 2F used. Now don't pass out, but I love the Wal Mart filters. They have huge filter media area, a neoprene backflow valve and a very high first pass efficiency rating, as high or higher than anything I've seen on any brand. Oh, and they're cheap.

. . . a filter that was half the size of what is currently on my 60. . . . Did I get the right filter?

LOL!

I did the SAME thing! I was standing at the parts counter doing a double take, looking at that dinky little filter, and wondering if I had accidently asked for a filter for my ATV or something.

They assured me that I had the right one. I'm running one on my '40 and one on my '62. They seem to work, but oil filters are kinda quiet, so who knows?

It's actually the same filter that fits the 22Rs and 22REs and who knows what else in Toyotaland. I used to buy the LC filter for my little truck. I guess the bean-counters decided to drop the bigger one of the two.

I bought a case of those little dinks for the 60 and the wife's 80. I used two, the whole while thinking there's no way eight quarts of oil should be confined to that thimble.
I now use them on the work and hunting beater with the 22RE .
I figured when I get the 60 back together I will be calling on Cruiser Dan for the ol' coffee can filter.:hillbilly:

Thanks

Thank you gentlemen. I hate to bother folks about trivial issues, but I don't want to ruin anything. I also didn't want to insinuate my Toyota parts man didn't know what he was doing. Mud is great.

Since these engines run a little warm in high temps. of Texas. I use the larger filter with an aluminum wrap around collar from SOR. I want all the cooling I can get along with all the sq.inches of filtering material. Mike

One of the best filters you can use is the Purolator PL30001

I started using this one (PL30001) on my last oil change on my 80. I bought the gold one, combined with Mobil One 10W30.:D

The correct oil filter for the 2F Land Cruiser is 15600-41010. If the dealer attempts to tell you that it is not available, they are not telling the truth. The 15600-41010 is the original large size filter. Another good filter is a Wix or Napa gold (which is a Wix). I am also liek Hastings filters.
