My oil cooler is leaking coolant onto the ground, but I feel it may also be leaking into the crankcase as there is milk in my oil fill cap. So is the oil cooler actually a part that can fail, or could it merely be the cover and/or gaskets? Rather not buy one as they aren't cheap.

And is it possible to do without pulling the manifold? I always seem to break bolts doing that.

Thanks.

Here is my motor that was rebuilt a couple of years ago. You can see the large oval for the oil cooler. Right behind it is of course a large coolant passage. If the oil cooler is leaking it doesn't have far to go to get into the coolant.

Yes, I had this happen to me after my rebuild. I used brand new OEM gaskets and torqued to spec but coolant still crossed over. I pulled it apart, used copper spray a gasket from permatex then re torqued to a couple ft lbs over what was recommended. So far no more issues.
