Changing the oil on a Hundy is about as easy as it gets. That said, it annoys me when I go to take the old filter off and oil starts dribbling all over the place. With the front skid plate I have installed (Slee), there is no direct downward path for the oil to drip so it slowly finds its way all over the undercarriage and ultimately, the garage floor. I've tried jamming rags around the area but I always end up with oil spots on the ground.
Today, I came up with a pretty solid work around. Here's what you'll need:

Let me clarify. This will not completely rectify the issue with oil coming out of the block when you unscrew the old oil filter but it will greatly reduce the amount of oil you have to deal with. When I pulled the old filter after draining it, I had a rag underneath and it easily caught the (greatly reduced) dribbles.
Today, I came up with a pretty solid work around. Here's what you'll need:
- 1 gallon Ziploc bag (or similar)
- 2-3 rubber bands
- Pointed punch
- Hammer
- Do this:
- Then do this (on the old oil filter while it is still attached):
- Punch a hole in the bottommost point of the old oil filter - Don't worry, oil is not going to gush out of the little hole you put in the baggie.
- Sit back and think about awesome stuff like Bigfoot, rail guns, and what Elizabeth Hurley looked like during the Austin Powers era.
Here... I'll help you:
- When the oil filter is ready to come off, the bag will look like this:
- Proceed with your normally scheduled oil change!
