I have a 95 with 153K and just had the Headgasket replaced as PM. I have only put about 70 miles on it and I noticed some condensation under the oil fill cap. I am hoping it is just condensation and not coolant in the oil. It has been really wet around here and I typically only drive around town 5-10 minute trips. I didn't have this isssue prior to the HG replacement. I was wondering if anyone has had this issue following a new HG.

Thanks

Steve

are you loosing coolant?

you should mark the overflow when cold and check it every morning.

I have only driven about 50 miles since I topped it off following the PM and it has dropped maybe 1/8 " in the reservoir. The temperatures have been swinging from 30 degrees one day and 50 the next with rain. Head was checked for leaks and valves were ground also. Run so smooth and quiet, their must be a problem LOL.

i know you said that you didnt have the problem before, but just to make you feel more comfortable i see condensation every day at the dealer on on very new low mileage cars. condednsation is fairly normal to see on the oil cap.

Some condensation under the oil fill cap is common, normal if driven only short trips in damp weather. Take it on a nice long drive where it can warm up completely and see if it clears up.

X2. Just before I left for Moab a couple of weeks ago, we were of course in sub freezing temps in Utah. I drove the Cruiser to the gas station to gas up and checked my oil while filling up. Saw SOME condensation under the oil cap and was PARANOID. Almost canceled the trip, but thought let's just go and I'll monitor it very closely. After running on the interstate for about a half hour decided to check it again and it was completely gone. Coolant level was same as always also when I checked that morning before we left. Didn't have any condensation under the cap at all again in Moab either. Cruiser also doesn't see much driving maybe once a week.

Thanks for the replies, I will keep an eye on it. I will try and attach some pre and post engine pictures.

My truck had a decent amount of condesation on it for a while. I, like you, only drive short trips usually. After a sunday of running errands and a few longer trips, it's completely gone. So if I were you I would not worry. Run it for some time and see if it clears up.

Might also simply be from residual coolant in the system from the work itself. I suggest changing the oil/filter after a couple days or hours of operation.
