I know that this is not the perfect tow vehicle, but I may be towing a 2000 pound boat from So Cal to Lake Mead or Lake Powell a couple of times (or so) per year. The specs say 5000 lb towing capacity, but does anyone know from experience or similar sized and powered vehicle if towing up Cajon Pass with the FJ is going to leave me struggling in the slow lane?

I'm currently using our v-10 F250 to tow and we don't even notice that the boat is behind us. We have a Honda Pilot that we could tow with, but it would cost $500 for the tranny cooler and another $500 for the factory hitch. I'd rather spend the money toward the new FJ.

Thanks!

Just towed my two Yamaha 1200's today...

I live in coastal South Carolina so no real stress test involved. The FJ towed well on the road with plenty of power. On the boat ramp the full time 4WD worked well with no slipping - very smooth. The only problem I noticed is that with the high "liftgate" or rear door it was extremely hard to see the PWC trailer's end and operate the clutch while "sitting" 6 inches off the seat bottom. I will be adding some plastic site poles to the trailer to make it easier in the future.
