I have searched this site and read in other sites articles I could find about AWD/Full-Time-FWD/Part-Time-FWD systems. I do know more than I used to before the research, but I do not know if it helps me. I still do not know answers to the basic question: What can a hundred with only a CDL and A-Trac do off road.

I know the concept of lifting the vehicles in order to get additional lift. However, assuming I have enough clearance, but situatuations where my front/rear or both wheels can spin, how does my four wheel drive system with CDL engaged handle it? How does the A_Trac come to play?

Another question (hilly vs non-hilly roads):
  • If there is about a foot of snow in the ground, what is the best fwd choice?
  • What about when it is icy but there is no snow?
  • What if it is icy and there is about a foot of snow on top?

Please feel free to answer only a part of the question.

For snow driving (just got a lot of practice here in CO)

For the most part, leave it be. Stay in hi range, too much torque = slippage. Use the 2nd start button if it is slick, ice or ice underneath. This starts the truck in second gear and reduces wheel spin. Push it once, the function stays on util you restart the engine or push the button again.

If you are still having problems getting off the dime, or you are pushing a lot of heavy snow, use the center locking differential button. This divides the power from front to back and keeps all the power from dumping to one wheel. According to the owners manual, you don't want to drive around all the time like this, but it does make a difference in the deep stuff.

Hope this helps. I am still waiting to hit the trails with mine and see what it does!
