just repacking and checking the wifes LX, and both sides had Timken bearings. rig only has 80,000 miles
I thought OEM was Koyo? unless they had been changed before we got the rig at 58,000 miles

Just wondering

Does any one know? still wondering????

I bought OEM bearing replacements from the dealer for spares in case I needed one when I got the hubs apart for re-packing. I opened up the Toyota box to check them out and they are Timkens, which I was happy about, BUT, I think I could have just gone and bought timkens from a bearing supplier for waaaaaay less than what I paid for them from the dealer ........and I would have if I knew that's what the dealer was selling me.

I wonder if Timken uses different specs for toyota. Timken is a huge bearing supplier, but I know they make bearings to order, which I assume they use Toyota specs for production.

Timkens are used for tariff reasons on Japanese imported vehicles.

There is no notieable difference between the bearings.

We sell both Timkens and Koyos depending on what the customer wants. The Timkens in Toyota OEM boxes are more expensive.

Timken or Koyo

They've used both.

We stock and sell the KOYO bearings. We are direct with KOYO and stock them in bulk, so pricing is good too.

The Timken website has a lookup feature for finding Timken bearing and seal numbers for a specific application on a specific vehicle. I usually go to Autozone with that, they don't have Timken numbers in their computer, but they stock them by Timken number. And I can return them if I get to the bearing and it looks good.

I use a lot of bearings on machinery, my vendors feel that Timken is better than Koyo, but I wouldn't hesitate to use either on my cars.

Timken is inferior to koyo but oem koyo from partsgeek.com i just ordered mine and the 54 mm sst 09607-60020 from cost plus tools 23 and 12 ship...
I love my cruiser so it get JAPAN parts only ;)
