I have an 86 FJ60 that could use some carb work. I've seen the rebuild kits online for $60-$70 and I was wondering if anyone had done one of these and what type of results you got. I was considering upgrading to a Weber carb, but wasn't sure how much of an 'upgrade' it would actually be. My carb works ok and I drive my 60 every day, but it did sit for a few years before I got it and I think it could use some help. I've never done a carb rebuild, but I've been told it's a pretty straightforwad deal with very little magic needed, so I appreciate any help I can get!!!

I can't speak from experience (I have a 62, not a 60), but from my understanding upgrading to a Weber is a good idea for improved performance, but if you want longevity and reliability, have your OEM carb rebuilt by Jim C. Reading the 60's Tech section, he seems to be the final authority on Cruiser carbs.

PS where on the north side do you live? I lived on N. Colton (by the Y) until about a year ago. Living on the South Hill now.

There is a carb. place on Monroe and Garland, across monroe from the theater parking lot that does pretty good work and is familiar with Toyota carbs.

And don't tell Spook where you live! HA HA HA HA HA

Hey don't be hatin'. At least I bring beer when I show up :D

Thanks for the help! I live out on Indian Trail right now, but I'm in the process of moving. We'll be at the corner of Longfellow and Normandie. We'd definitely like to host some meetings if anyone would like. I have enough beer to drown us all!
