After 90 K miles the front shocks on my 2006 started to make some noise due to bushing problems, so decided to buy new OEM shocks at the local Toyota dealer here in Colombia, South America. In less than a month, I have been through 3!!
Anyone experiencing something like this??

I think I would change to an OME shocks setup.

Those look like OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) shocks and not OME shocks (Old Man Emu) in the pictures.

My front right came out in two pieces, they had about 45K on them I think, were replaced by PO.

When it finally came apart it was a very noticeable change in how the right side of the rig handled bumps and such.

I just replaced all four wth OEM, guess time will tell.

My problem is with the brand new ones, 3 of them just disintegrated within 3 weeks

I put 4 new ones on my 2003 a little over a year ago and they're still fine, but I've only put 3-4k miles on them.

My front passenger oem shock leaked all of the oil out over the last two weeks. It has about 10k miles on it. I wonder if it's gonna rip apart like yours did. Like greenbean said, the right side ride quality is terrible going over potholes.

I have a new one on the way so I'll have a better look at the blown one when I go to swap it out

my new OEM shocks have less than 10k and one of the rear is leaking. They were inexpensive but I expected more from Toyota OEM.

Just installed OEM today, removed what looked to be original OEM (244k)...sure hope quality is just as good, we shall see. First I have heard of any issues with them!

From your pictures, it looks like you're breaking the shafts.

The question is, is the issue due to:
A manufacturing problem with the shock?
A similar but incorrect part number?
A problem with the install?
A problem with the suspension that is putting undue stress on the shock?

They are awesome for street and mild off road. They don't take serious abuse very well. But they're friggin' cheap.

We have put ~25K on our OEM shocks. Mostly on pavement, some potholes, and light off-road. They still works fine, no leaks.

Dang! How about some insight into the types of roads you go on...are they really rough? What's your payload? 3 new shocks busted in a month seems like something isn't quite right. Unless you took it to the Dakkar Rally??

Seems to me that the shocks are to short and are over extending.

The dealership replaced 2 of them under warranty. When the third broke after only two weeks of installed, decided to swap to Ironman Foam Cell.
They are sending the broken ones to Japan, I am eager to know what they have to say about the problem.

I was also replacing the original ones. I am waiting now for an answer from Toyota. Perhaps a faulty batch or something like that.

I travel quite a bit on unpaved roads, but the original ones lasted 90.000 miles, don't understand why the new ones only lasted a few weeks. Waiting for Toyota to give an answer.
