I have a Yakima Megawarrior roof rack and I’m looking to put in an extension (18 or 22”, I think).
I currently have it mounted to the two factory crossbars. I’d like to add a couple more for better support.

Or do you think I shouldn’t waste money on the factory bars and get something like LFD rails? (Bundle is on back order right now).

If I can make the OEM bars work, I’d rather do that and spend money elsewhere.

I’ll most likely stick to the 165lb weight limit. I’ll throw lighter camping gear up there. Typically usage now is just skis.

Also, if anyone has factory crossbars for sale, please let me know. Thanks.

I put two LFD bars on my Sequoia a few years ago, I didn't get the whole package because I am cheap and I do believe the front bar was also backordered then. The factory crossbars are flimsy as can be, my Thule box rocked back and forth for a 1,000 mile trip and I said no more. The only problem with the LFD bars is the wind noise, but if you are rocking a Mega Warrior rack then you probably won't notice. I put vortex generators on my roof and that took care of 90% of the noise.

Interesting you installed the fins at an angle. Did that work better than just pointing them straight on?

I haven’t loaded the roof rack yet. Perhaps you’re right. Now I'm leaning LFD. And correct, I don’t think the wind noise will be an issue with the giant rack on there.

One thing I’m not sure of is how to mount the Megawarrior to the bars. I’ll have to look into that.

Whereabouts in UT are you? I'm South Ogden and wouldn't mind ditching my OEM cross bars. No idea what they're worth to you, so shoot me a number via PM and we can go from there.

one other option- replace the OEM rack with 2 or 3 cross bars & towers... would support that Megawarrior and then some.

What's under the factory side rails? I never use the roof for storage and would like to get rid of the roof rack all together. Is it just bolt holes that'd need to be sealed up or what? Thanks.

It's some threaded nuts, so yeah just bolt holes. You'd want to get some rubber sealing washers, then some M8 x 16mm long bolts to go in there, maybe a little sealant if you want overkill. Flip through any of the rack install videos for 100, 200, GX460, etc. on the site and you will see the bolt holes, same stuff on the 250. Videos — Gamiviti - https://www.gamiviti.com/videos

Awesome! I appreciate it! Rack's coming off tomorrow.
