I've been "using" this site for years but somehow never joined? Sad. But now remedied. I am now official, so what best than to bring up new versions of old questions?

I'd like to put some old-school / foreign market 16" steel wheels on my fj62.

I have read thru a whole buncha threads on split rims and wheel compatibility on 25s, 40s, 45s... and lots of opinions on safety, maintenance, etc... BUT I'm still un-sure as to whether the 40 series stuff will work on a 62. It seems easier to come by than contemporary rims for 60's specifically (if there is even such a distinction).

I saw several folks running stock 15" steel wheels on their 60 series trucks and none mentioned clearance/backspacing issues, so would I be safe to assume that 16" wheels would mate up?

I don't yet have a line on any wheels, just an urge. I'm in Oregon for the next six mos, so kinda close to Canada, and with all the imported trucks appearing stateside, it seems likely someone within a few hrs driving distance from me may have a set heaped up in their garage I could "help" dispose of. Shipping is really a no-go as near as I can tell... Too much $$$.

But will it work? or is there a 60's specific version that I'd need to find?

apocalypsegrrrrl has a killer set-up on this thread: https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-...e-oem-split-rims-tubeless-wider-new-rims.html

I'd just pm a few folks who seem to be in the know, but I don't guess I'm allowed to just yet...

Thanks in advance, more to follow...

I'm with you in this split rim quest. I've always loved the look of them on the 45's.
I think apocalypsegrrrrl has helped me make up my mind as well seeing them on her rig. It'll be a while yet before I get to the wheel stage of my resto but I think i'm decided.

I don't think there is a problem with compatibility as pretty much all off the older rigs share the same types of wheels in one country or another.
Of course I could be wrong.
