Wow, that is a heck of a deal.

Come on Jack. You know you want one......

It must have sold, I looked on craigslist and it doesn't show up now. So the temptation has been removed. :flipoff2:

I bet the one for $2K in Chilcoot is still there.

The fallon crew said they stopped and looked at it and it was a total rust bucket. See my kung fu is stronger than the temptation you both are trying...:hillbilly:

Rust is good for a rock rig.

Remember the freedom of the rust. :grinpimp:

It's been a busy summer.

I just clicked the link and it was there. Below is copied text from that link

1972 Toyota FJ-40 soft top. 327 Chevy engine, headers, Holley carb, 4 speed manual transmission (may be a SM420), All custom gages, Saginaw power steering conversion, custom roll cage, extra set of bucket seats (see photo). Engine is running and sounds good. The brakes will need a rebuild and there is some minor rust in the rear of the tub. The rest of the body is solid and in pretty good shape with a few dent that are easily repaired. This is a great restoration project vehicle. I don't need this second FJ so get a good one to begin your project with. Asking $1650. Call Russ at (510) 207-9646

Call the number. There are pics in the link. It doesn't look that bad

That is what is wierd, your link still works, but when you search craigslist for it, it doesn't come up.

Rust holes make the water drain better, they make spotting yourself over an obstacle easier, they reduce weight, they eliminate blind spots, they add cooling in the winter and summer....

They make convenient places to store rags and beverage cans... I can go on and on....

If I didn't already have my Ramcharger I'd buy that thing just so I could hear that small block sing. There's nothing like the tune of a 327 at 7K rpm and going up....

I found different results for FJ-40 and FJ40. 3 under FJ-40 and multiple under FJ40. Search terms apparently are very specific.

Hello brother, you are one with the rust.

Well, as of 1pm, the guy still had it. I went to look at it.

It was built in the '70's and so it has that build mentality. It was fairly rust free, but the overall condition was rough. The seats weren't much more than the springs. He did have some Prelude seats. It had some nice aftermarket guages, and the rollcage, while funky looked like it was decently built. The engine has a two barrel carb, and he was pouring gas into it, to get it to run. The little bit it ran, the motor sounded good and wasn't blowing smoke or anything. The headers were the old style fender exit ones that put the exhaust outside of the frame rails and pointing out right at the rear tires. The motor had been pushed to the front as far as it would go, so the tranny shifter came up through the tunnel below the heater box. No fan shrould and it had those cool super wide chrome solid rims (rusted of course) from the 70's. The hood and right front fender had some body filler on them. It would be a decent project, but far from cheap.

I offered him $1k, he countered with $1250. I told him that if the other people that were supposed to look at it didn't buy it, to give me a call. It is rough and would need a lot of work to get it on the road.

Jack

I knew the temptation would be too great. Especially when you thought about that little 327...

I know you are in the same situation as me though. If it's not a smoking deal, then there are far more important things in life than another fricking project car...

Engine forward is good, better cooling and plenty of room for a Toy Box.

How much is the 327 worth alone?

We need a few more FJ40's in the club.
Joanne was saying Saturday that she misses the runs that were mostly FJ40's. There's something cool about a long line of FJ40's rolling down the trail.

327's speak to me...

I was surprised to see a two barrel on it though. I guess that makes it a family car 327, which isn't so bad, but it would kill the high revving ability of those motors.

And that is exactly why I passed. I have far too many other things to do, but I thought if this one had been a little closer to road-worthy, I might pick it up and turn it into a Fordyce rig. Oh well.

Even if it had a 4BBL you would have wanted to make it a TBI.

I bet it's not to late to call the guy back.
