At El's I had to get the shrimp burger.
The Grocery was great for lunch
Eatins Garden(sp) had some good sammies also
sanitary fish market (on someone elses recommendation) cool place but, okay food
Nicky"s (between the bridges) was very good
Trattoria's had great pizza!
Some other places that I can't remember
but, my favorite meal from the whole trip was found in portsmouth Va.......duck tacos! awesome find at ,of all places, a pizzeria...... Segundo"s! The "most family friendly" place i could find downtown @ 9pm!!

Gentlemen, I am coming back to the area on June 15th for a week!! What's to do around Southern shores< just north of Kitty hawk! We will be renting a house with friends!!! 5 kids < 3 5 yr olds and 2 3 yr olds!!! hopefully there will be time for at least some of the adults to get away!!! You all were all such a big help last time, hoping for some more good advise... we will be driving the fjcruiser again( surprise the headgasket blew on the new 80) what do i need to get for beach driving priviledges?? thanks

Someone may correct me if I'm wrong but the northern islands don't need the beach access permits.

There is kill devil hills dunes to play on. Bring a cheap disc sled for the kiddos

The wright bros memorial at kitty hawk is cool but kids may be just a few yrs young to fully enjoy.

Corolla outback/outfitters offers diesel cruiser tours or just good eye candy with quality cruiser head java shop next door

Take the road north till it ends and then head north to the va line. Good opportunity to view the wild horses and explore around some off pavement network of roads. Check the tidal pool depths before charging ahead; there are a couple deep spots depending.

Yeah, no permit needed to drive past Corolla. And Corolla Outback is no longer doing Cruisers, just bobbed surburbans and other trucks for their tours now....

Awesome thanks!! dunes are definetly in our future. What about cool places to eat or visit? Places that arent on the tourist maps!! Can you drive your own rig to see the horses?

you can drive your own rig up to carova (the unpaved section north of Corolla)

Drove up there last night! Lots of horses and lots of people everywhere! It amazes me what some people's idea of a 50ft perimeter around the horses is!! we stayed for the sunset and it was great!! Tonight, i will load up the kids in the back and take them (last night was date night, thank god for bringing the grandparents) Only 3 nights left, Sat is gonna maybe be mud slinging event by gravedigger"s place!! what else is 'not to miss"???
