Does anybody have an OBDII reader I can borrow?

I'm trying to diagnose a problem with the sons XJ.

The Heep will be running fine then act like it's starved for fuel, pedal to the floor, no acceleration. Then it will take off, then lose power.

A new fuel filter seemed to fix the problem but it came back again this weekend. We put a cheap clear filter in line with the factory filter and it looks clean.

It can happen with a cold engine or with the engine hot.

The CEL is on so I figure step one is to read that.

Meanwhile if any of you ex-Heep guys have suggestions we are all ears.

I've got a buddy's that I've been borrowing you can use.
Sounds like the EGR, but the OBD should tell ya what's going on.

Orilieys has one you can borrow, I've used it several times, o2 sensors can cause some weird problems, don't rule them out.

TORQUE! or rather TORQUE PRO!

It's a $4.95 Android app that you use with a $50 bluetooth OBD-II dongle (Amazon).

You get:
All codes with immediate web lookup and basic diagnostic suggestions.
It will clear faults.
A full dashboard of real-time gauges you never knew existed but will depend on your ECM/sensors. Of course it still has all the normal gauges too.
Integration with the phones accelerometer with cool graphing capabilities.
Mapping (satellite and road) using the phones GPS capabilities.
Plots on map different sensor readings.
Uploads real-time data to web server so you can play all you want and do the diagnostics later, or just for storing/comparing your tune.
It's smaller than a pack of cigarettes with no wires/batteries (other than phone) and works on any post '96.

It does not affect the programming so not useful for boosting your diesel HP.

The cool factor is way worth the $60, yet this beauty has saved my bacon numerous times.

He went the Oriely route.

Code was for random misfires so he replaced the plugs, plug wires, rotor and cap. He got a few more codes but he didn't let the truck idle or anything after he cleared the old codes.

He re-checked the plug wires etc. cleared the codes and drove around for a while with no problems. I told him to drive it for a while before he proclaims the problem fixed.

@ psreno I ordered a bluetooth OBDII reader, it was $15 plus S&H so about $21 out the door. I'll look at Torque for the SW to drive it.
