Just changed O2 sensor (Bank 2 Sensor 1), Advanced Auto Parts pulled code P0051, but CEL is still on? Will it reset on its own? I could drive back to the parts store, but they are instructed not to clear codes, "even if you bought the parts and can prove its replaced"

Stupid I know, but happy to have did the job quick, and want this code gone before I leave town for work.

Thanks!...Max

Why are they instructed not to clear a code? If it is still showing it will pop right back up again or in a few minutes.
The parts stores here will read and clear for you.

It will take 3 or 4 starts of normal driving before it falls off.

Best way to clear without disconnecting the battery is to go to harbor freight and buy a $30 code reader. It will also clear the code as well as read it. Then you'll bed set for next time!

$5 to the teenager at the parts store. They aren't supposed to clear them, but they did about half the time before I bought an OBDII connector for my computer.

Old post revival but I was wondering the same. I replaced the O2 sensor that looked like it had been on there for 16 years. Went to pull off the gasket and the only thing left was the metal outer ring in 5 pieces. Checked to make sure there wasn't any gasket material left and then replaced with a new O2 sensor. Drove it twice yesterday and was waiting for the light to go out after 50 miles of driving but when it didn't I started to question if the new O2 sensor was a dud. My daily driver usually resets after 42 miles of constant driving so that is why I was confused about the check engine light reset.

Now if it doesn't go out AutoZone had mentioned a fuse to check but I have no idea where that would be located. Anyone know?
