Hey All,

After a couple of 500 mile days, while driving at 70mph the Cruiser dropped out of O/D (without me touching anything) and the O/D Off light and R (reverse) lights were dimly lit in the gauge cluster. I clicked the O/D OFF switch on the shifter after this happened, and the R light went out and the O/D OFF light became fully lit (as it would normally be).

No other lights on in the dash (idiot lights). Transmission shifts like normal (outside of not having O/D).

1998 100 Series.

Any thoughts?

1000 miles from home. Might take her to the dealer to have her checked out, as I don't want to drive home w/o O/D next week.

Thanks,

Court

Check all wires connected to transmission for damage, something may have bounced off road and hit them.

After a day, back to normal, cannot get it to replicate for the dealer. They inspected/drove the truck today and couldn't find anything.

You can try some wiggle testing of the harnesses and plugs...

I'll be somewhere with a garage tomorrow, that's the plan.

When I bought my 99lx it didn't have overdrive at all. For the price I paid I didn't care. I work at a dealer so our trans tech and i looked into it. His best guess was either a valve body issue or a failure of the trans. All the solenoids ohmed perfect. I opted to swap trans and didn't bother any further. Just figured I would share what we found for that problem.
