Guys this thing seems like the ultimate answer for some. Based on my reading...et

It appears:

(1) this thing can serve as an adapter between your GM transmission and your FJ60 split case, with no other parts required, or apparently sandwich between the 55f and the split case as is...(I understand you can configure the front half of the black box to mate with certain mainstream transmissions.

(2) is also has the primary function of being a high/low range box.

So for the rock crawlers types you got a way to get some further reduction....for someone who wanted gearing for the road and trail...potentiall this would help there too.

Seems like a worthy option if you own most of the other parts already and desired a low/range option for a doubler and you intended to run the split-case. I realize there are other approaches and you might consider an atlas too...of course all of which is fairly good chunk of $$.

I know this thing is relatively new...who has seen one or has first hand knowledge...anyone?

I studied the black box at length. Here is a thread where we looked at it for the 80.

Makin the 80 slooow down

Since the tank on the 60 is behind the axle the overall length isn't going to matter as much, but honestly unless you are looking for an underdrive/ overdrive then you would come out money ahead to just get the correct adapter to go from the trans to the split case.

Honestly with the automatic options to go behind an LS, the only reason to go with a Black box is if your looking for the extra low range. And with the AA t-case gears coming in at about half the BB, then unless you are looking for triplecase low range type gearing and your not concerned with overall drive line length then just get a good Chevy auto and roll out.

All that said, I want one. I want one bad, but I can't justify it right now, but I'm hoping eventually.

Yes..the idea was if you wanted both features....and I'm just saying that... you wanted a high/low box or so called doubler and it also had the capability to function as an adapter between a gm trans and a yota transfercase or various other configurations. Yeah I would not buy just to have the adapter..because that would not make sense.

The other thing is...and I'm not saying is perfect solution...but if you had a truck that you wanted hwy gears and then reasonable low gearing for offroad...you could have road gears in the axle and get your off-road gearing through your tc... I'm sure that would mean figuring out the ratio relationship between the tc and the doubler and if those reductions made sense in the manner I'm suggesting. I'm sure you might find yourself where without the doubler you just did not get low enough (leaving the axle gearing alone) and then with the doubler engaged....it might be too low.

anyway...it seems like a good concept and it serves or can serve double duty....and it works apparently with the FJ60 transfer case

if you had a rockbox buggy or other crawler type thing....and you had a GM auto trans and a FJ60 TC.....this thing would be your friend, conversly I'm thinking it might be your friend on some type of dual purpose truck where you had relatively high gears at the axle...say for example 3.73 or even 4.11...depending on tire size too.
