Well after bugging Marlin Crawler for a couple years and no one that works there knowing when they will even be able to guess as to when a crawl box will be available for the H55F split case set up I have thrown in the towel.

Thanks to Dean he found a product made here in Canada, which I believe is better than using a standard low range box like Marlins because of the planetary design. Especially with torque output of the diesel cruisers. The planetary is just plain stronger and equally distributes the forces evenly across the case.

Not putting down Marlins products at all we just installed a crawl box into a members hilux this last weekend. But when it comes to the torque of the diesels in a cruiser I have to give the basic design of the black box the nod.

I'm currently inquiring more information as to when these will be available for sale. Pretty much as soon as these become available NWF has at least 3 sold. I will post more information when I get it, but I am very excited to having a crucial missing piece to my builds finally potentially filled.

If anyone else is interested please let me know. Dean I know you have been sitting on the fence with the idea. Anyone else interested? So far I need two for sure and Kevin needs one.

Thanks,

John

Without knowing cost is a little tough but I would probably be in.

i was told by a not so reliable source that the blackbox is going to be around 2g's for the 19 spline cruiser version..

as far as the planetary vs. regular gearset theory goes..... i have seen both types of gearsets blow up and until there is some sort of long term track record for this cruiser black box it is hard to say what will last longer.... the toybox now has a completely solid track record with pretty much all of the bugs worked out.... the earlier cases had a problem with oil pumping out of the shifter but that was a flaw in the design with not having bigger holes between the toybox and tranny to allow oil to flow back into the tranny quicker.. this has been addressed with all of the newer redesigned cases and i believe Marlin will take back your older plate and do the machining necessary to stop the oil pumping issue.. other than that, completely solid.

the only few things that would bother me about the black box is that down the road i think like any other seal, the input/output seal will fail and you will have an issue with oil transfering between cases.. aslo, i wonder how well the blackbox will stay cool.. i am assuming that the blackbox case will have a sufficient amount of oil for proper cooling.. there is a lot of tooth contact in a planetary case and they can run hotter than a traditional gear driven gear box..

also, with a planetary gear set you will have to keep the oil cleaner.. because of all of the gear contact they arent as resistant to a poor maintenance schedule and i dont know how well they would do if they got some water in them from a deep water crossiing.. traditional gear sets tend to be able to chew up and deal with debris better being that the tolerances are bigger between teeth and are less sensitive to a lack luster maintenance schedule..

this all being said i think you need to buy one of these cases and then take lots of pics of the install.. iam really curious to see how they will really handle a bit of use and abuse.. its good to know that there is another option out there for the cruiser guys...

Well I spoke to them and the black box will run about 2g. They have three available. Full production will begin in a couple months. As far as how durable they will be I think all they did was adapt the regular black box to fit a cruiser and I don't think people have anything bad to say about the regular black box. I just think that it will be stronger running the torque of a six cylinder diesel better than a case that was originally meant for a mini truck.

Let me know when you plan on ordering. Im in for sure.

Awesome, I'm thinking December merry Christmas to the land cruisers.

I'm ready, is this happening?Talk to me Johnny!

I'll see what my budget looks like in January. Not sure how much of a deal we can get. Didn't sound like anything when I called the guy and talked to him. They are available for purchase and install if you want to get ahead of the game. I should get on here and update my build thread as well as the last wheeling trip.

This next year is going to be having some huge fun trips so I hope everyone is ready.

you get your black box yet??

No new info on the box. I'll do some digging and see what I can find. Cruisers took a back burner while repairs and mods take place on the Tacoma. Fall of next year will bring in a lot of cruiser goodies, fingers crossed.

Balck Box is extremely strong, you would have to ask Kyle the numbers on it but if I remember correctly, the cruiser tcase would pop well before the black box would fail..

Thread resurrection: Did anyone ever get one of the NWF units into their Cruiser?

I have a project and the Marlin toybox is like finding Hen's Teeth, so I am looking for other options. Just curious if there were any long term reports out there on them.

Thanks,

Matthew

Look up Arnott1, he just put one in. I wheeled with him. It's cool
