I'm trying to change the O2 sensor on my 1993 Land Cruiser. Twelve years of salty Hawaiian air has not been kind to the O2 sensor nuts. They're rounded and fairly rusty. Any suggestions on how to get them off. I've already soaked them in LPS LST Penetrant. A 6 point 12 mm socket and 12 mm wrench won't budge them.

Try a chisel.

If you have the space, a vise grip or a pipe wrench can also help.

I had the same problem with some of mine. Get some bolt-outs (Craftsman makes some). They're like socket wrenches but have spiral flutes in them that grab the bolt--even if it's rounded--and let you remove it.

You may find that the stud comes out instead of the bolt coming off. No biggie. If it's in good shape, just put it back, otherwise get some new studs too.

If all else fails then use a Dremel with a cut-off wheel. You can cut or grind the nut down slowly and stop before you damage the threads. If you don't have a Dremel buy one, and make sure you get the model with adjustable RPM's.
