paint

Just bought paint at lunch today... I will be spraying on the tinted bedliner this weekend. Progress!!! :D

Very nice work and great progress! Makes me realize I have so far to go on mine. :frown:

I'm curious what the paint booth rental costs if you would share that info?

rental costs

it depends on the day of the week, $50 a day mon-thu, $80 a day fri-sat. I dont know if that is good or bad, but I suspect good. The only one I could find was a local deisel repair place that just happened to have a booth in the back, so the owners were looking to supliment their business by renting it out. Its a bring-your-own-just-about-everything, but it has filters, lights, and a strong compressor (I use my own filter ont eh air supply as I dont know how clean their air is).

Thanks. That sounds like a great deal to me and well worth it. I asked around my local area for rentals and so far have not found one. As long as they are supplying the air, it seems like it would not be too bad to take everything to a booth. Having to take and setup an air source would be a pain.

Do they supply a fresh air source for you (the painter)? Or are you using a carbon filter type mask?

air

no fresh air source, so using a carbon mask. It isnt too bad bringing your own stuff, just remember to bring a table for mixing, wire for hanging stuff, all the supports for bigger parts... lots of stuff. But having the good light, and clean environment is great. It would be super easy if I was painting it assembled on a rolling or driving truck. Hauling big parts like the cab and bed over there and back is both a pain and a good opportunity to damage them.

My next project (the buick in the avatar) is going to be going in one piece; or at least fewer pieces.

bedline

sprayed in some bedliner this weekend (just int he back yard; its only bedliner!). Came out pretty good. Sorry the contrast in the photos isnt better, but the "sandstorm" is a pretty light color and so is the primer. It is neat to finally see some color on this though. :D

updates

Well, it is getting close to November again (kind of like how a magazine shows up in June with a September date on the cover), so I thought I would update the ROTM....

When we left off I had bedlined. Then I painted it in January (thats my buddy Tim heloing out in the booth).

custome wheels

had toyota pattern centers welded into H1 12 bolt beadlocks (local guy Justweldit, does great work; he also modified my gas tank to allow the return line I needed for the fuel injected engine).

took care of the wiring... lots of wires! The LS1 has about 70 wires coming off of the computer; I was able to exclude about 25 of them. I tucked the computer up neatly out of the way.

plumbed the fuel lines, the engine hoses, the brake lines, power steering lines. Tinkered and sweated, and was finally able to start it up for the first time. It actually started up without too much of a fight, wich is amazing considering all those wires.

then tinkered and sweated a bunch more (it was August in Arizona, so I am not exagurating when I said I sweated), to get the rest put together. The brakes leaked like a sieve when I first filled them, but after redoing some flares, it seems to be okay now.

finished up the seat brakets, painted hte roof and bezel, installed a headliner

did more assembly, took it for its first drive downt he steet (still have the small tires on, it BARELY fits in the garage with the small tires and no roof on.

spent this weekend gettignt he beadlock tires to hold air, finished up little wiring things like the cb and the power inverter. Installed the passenger seats and hood. Drove it out, and put on the real wheels, headache rack and the roof cap.

couple final shots of the interior with the seats and the floor mats and carpet. I dont have the AC in right now, wanted to finish prettying up under the dash first; besides, it is about to dip below 100 degrees here in Phoenix, so wont need AC until April of next year.

It goes to the exhaust shop this week to be made quiet. And then hopeing totake it out on its first trail ride next weekend.

Nice work mate
Do you think you will need to do a cut and turn after your test run
That cover on your LS1 looks very very common here in OZ ;) did you order it from oz .tis funny every man and his dog here pull off holden badges and put on the chevy bow tie badges

yes, the cover for the LS1 is from oz. Wanted something relatively unique here. Plus I like that it is one peice as opposed to the two peice corvette style rail covers you see all the time, covers more of the ugly that way.

Its too early to tell about the cut and turn. the front drive shaft is quite long, as the auto transmission plus adapters has it way back there. So I have reason to believe I might get away without one. Time will tell.
