Hey guys, I hate to be the one to point and laugh, but when at the Sept. meeting I suggested it to be a good idea to bring spare parts, and that idea was mocked and I myself made to look like a fool for implying such an idiotic notion, because of course, spare parts on a run would instantly make you cocky and not give a crap if you break, and also that spare parts just mean plain bad luck; in a long awited karmic answer I must say...... BWA-HAAAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
Take it easy guys, just funnin! Welcome to the club!

You weren't "MADE" to look a fool. You always look like that. If I remember correctly it was I who said that you were simply bringing down the wrath of the Cruiser Gods upon yourself by carrying spares. I still feel that way even after blowing my very first birf and having no clue how to remove it so that I might continue on down the trail yesterday. I figured it out and got on my way. I will now replace both with the new Longfields and probably will continue to travel spareless. Did I mention that I also taco'd the draglink and got ran over by my own rig all on the same day? Trail repairs are exactly that. I may not carry spares but I'll be damned if I'm gettin stuck out on the trail.

Pics from yesterdays trip.

that drag link looks nice bro, ive been there a couple times. oh and i dig the tires on the simulated wood grain cherokee but that whip antenna has to go.

Yeah, whatever Birfield boy, that makes alot of sense, but then again you'd never even seen one till yesterday, so that statement reflects that whole gag-bag of knowledge you're carrying around.

Yeah, a fool for your sexy good looks you beast!

The funny thing is that I was talking about how ironic it was that the president of the LC club had no idea how to change a birf. The good thing was that I had the right tools and the right people with me to get it pulled out in short order. Not a complicated job but deffinately a messy one. The number one lesson I learned was to never drive on a busted birf, change it where it broke, your drag link will thank you later.

John's Cherokee (Morninwood) will be joining us on the trail cleanup. He's a good guy and a great friend. His rig performs very well and I've actually been very impressed with those AT's he's running. So much so that I may put them on my 60 someday.

Yes, it's a very messy job. You don't realize how much grease is in that knuckle until you pop it open. Thats why it's also a good idea to have plenty of rags onboard so that the shirt on your back doesn't become one of them. You CAN drive on them though, it's better if you can change it right there, but as long as the wheel is free, you can move. The inside of my knuckle was gouged a bit after driving about 15 miles, but nothing major. I also couldn't turn right very well, but RHINO may be on to something when he suggested engaging the T-case into 4-hi to try to spin the pieces around to a place where turnig is easier. But we never had to try that. RHINO drove quite a ways on his, how long is that trip from RPP to your house?

RPP?

My wheel was locked up and not moving. I disengaged the hub so I had freewheel but no right turns at all. I figure that the draglink damage happened during extraction.

RPP (Rocker Panel Pass), I was hoping RHINO would chime in.

Yeah, that would definitely cause some understeer. You have a locker in the front, right?

ok ok here i am chiming in, RPP must be a good 50-60 miles. took it apart and found what i thought, shattered D side birf. it was really shattered in a lot of pieces for how quiet it popped.

Quiet?

I guess the sound must travel outward, because everyone in the bleachers knew something went wrong. It was sort of like this:

brbrbrbrbr v-vroom vroom (sound of camo FJ55 negotiating large boulders) brbrbrbr vrr-vroom vrooooBANG!

Ooooh, ahhhhh, it's a birf!, owwww!, not good, eeewww, that's gotta hurt, (sound of crowd)

At least that's what I remember ;p

bwahahaha !!!! awsome commentation, i guess i was expection alot more crunching or something.

Yeah, when mine went, it did'nt sound that loud to me either, but it blew into about 20 pieces. After reviewing the tape several time, you can definitely hear the engine revving right before the pop. Sounds like you need just a bit more experience 4xing with the awesomeness of the 130:1, cause I think the point is to not have to use the skinny pedal at all. But that's just a 20/20 hindsighted passenger side driver for ya.

What's funny is that mine sounded just like that too. Damned skinny pedal will get ya every time.

Anybody got a spare birf? I need one until I can order up some Longs.

medtro, how many do you have/want to sell?? i'll buy whatever you have to sell. i happen to be running mini birfs until i too order longs, probly my x-mas present.
BMAN if you use mini birfs we can split'em. if you dont its only a slight mod to put them in.
