1997 LX with 269k on the clock. I bought it with 261k. I finally decided to run an oil analysis, and it came back with high copper (69) and lead (28). Sample interval was 3k miles running Rotella T4 15w-40 Not exactly what I was hoping to see, but it's running fine at the moment. No knocking, smoking, coolant in oil, etc. I'm going to sample it again soon. This run is with Rotella T6 5w-40. I changed oil before cold weather arrived.
I'm assuming that lead and copper could only be coming from the main bearings as the report suggested, but are there any other potential sources?
I'm not really interested in a v8 or diesel swap so I'll probably just buy a Toyota short block and wait for it to finally give up. I sure was hoping to put more miles on it before a rebuild.
