New, but have been lurking. I think I know how the forum works. You post your truck for sale, everybody starts cracking on it if something doesn't add up right between text and pic, but occasionally someone weighs in with a character reference or that it is a nice rig (although over priced FJ's get their share of comments as well.) Here is one I am looking at that is high side priced, but please weigh in.https://nashville.craigslist.org/cto/d/kingston-springs-1988-toyota-fj62/6839941029.html. He wants $21,500, (ugh)

Yes, kind of a turnoff, but selling on CL seems to draw out the “I’ll take that off your hands for 10 pct of asking price” guys. It’s almost in the price range of a restoration with V8. Don’t know why I can’t just stop looking at it.

Craigslist is all over the place with prices. And characters. Beware.

I've been into 60s for about 20 years, and 40s for about twice that time. I've seen them go from "I can't GIVE IT AWAY" to folks asking stratospheric, VERY ambitious money for them.
In my opinion (mind you, this is me- an old school Cruiser guy), no one should be asking that kind of money for a 60.
I believe the $20k range is reserved for only the most original, cleanest, VERY low mileage examples out there. I'm talking about a 10 out of 10 interior with an intact dash/no cracks, a 10 body, and all original (including smog equipment) underhood with no more than 125k on the odometer (original, nothing rebuilt). The frame would be So Cal clean as well. These ARE out there, and people ask that kind of money. Ask. Remember that.
All the rest are in various stages of aging, damage, modification, and so on.

Its value after everything is in the eye of the beholder when it comes to these things. I have seen that.

I bought a one-owner garaged 1986 FJ60 in 2004 for 900 bucks. It was blue and had 132,765 miles. Totally original, had some wheelwell lip rust, but clean otherwise. It came with ALL the service records and paperwork.
How? Well, the single mother original owner bought it new, and used it for 18 years. After me running into her around town for 5-odd years asking about it, she decided to pay it forward since she filled her purpose for holding onto it for that long. Luck plays in at times, and compassionate people at others.
I had a friend who gave me free parts, and even trucks at one time. I had no space and had to turn them away! But I digress.
My best advice for new Cruiserheads is to come on here, check things out everywhere around the forums.

Bring your thick skin, because we have all kinds here. International people too, so imagine the diversity of opinion, age, experience, so on...and most of all, it's a writing media, so, like text messaging you can't take stuff in a blanket way. All of us write our language, feelings, and culture differently.
This is a great site, all in all. This now should probably be in the chit-chat area, lol.

So finally- keep your eye out and as time goes on you will learn more and more about the type of truck you love and be able to weed out what you don't want.

Anything else, please ask! I'm always here lurking as well. 😝

I look at 60s and 62s for sale all the time, daily. It's part of my business. Prices are not all over the place, prices are high. They are no longer a small niche of cult followers within the LC cult following. 60/62 series have gone main stream and the prices reflect that.

Six years ago, before the 60 series really took off those of us that like the 60/62 could find good deals because outsiders that were selling them thought they just had an old truck, and that is exactly what they had. But to us they were gems. Supply and demand, plain and simple.

Prices now, $12-15K gets you a truck that runs and is OK, fair to good.

Happy hunting!

Well said!

Some jabroni-level f***ery on that one, I'm afraid. Factory paint? Yeah, I bet that black trim isn't hiding a single bit of rust... Anyway, since you're out west, I'd focus my search more on the NM and AZ ones for sale. I snagged mine from down in Albuquerque. I think if you're patient you can find a worthy example that won't break the bank.

I’m pretty sure this is the one that sold about 6 months ago in Western NC for $3,500. Motor was locked up. The rest of it was pretty decent, but that’s a big swing in price if it was just a motor swap/rebuild.

For that price everything should work. Go look at it and drive it. Take a small magnet with you and check where that black trim is. Get underneath, look around, wiggle and poke. If somehting doesn't feel right, walk away.
