Son has a 2007 Scion Tc - air/heat blows but when he presses switch to increase fan speed, the indicator on the control unit in the dash doesn't indicate an increase in the fan speed and fan does not speed up. A/C blows cold.
Doesn't sound to me like a blower motor issue or low refrigerant as the indicator for the fan speed doesn't change. If the blower motor was shot, the I'd think the indicator on the control unit would go up incrementally, but not the air flow indicating a bad blower motor. Give that it does at least blow on the low setting and is cold I don't think it's refrigerant or the compressor.
Going to pop the trim off and remove the control unit to see if it might be a loose wire in any of the molex connectors, but beyond that not sure what it could be outside of a control unit gone bad. I'd want to be darn sure as the best price I can find on one of those is $550 on an MSRP of over $800 and that's what a stealership would charge plus a few hours of labor.
I'm willing to cough up the $$ for a starving student, but want to have some semblance of what the issue might be.
Thoughts?
