Cool. Great read and memories.

Clarence and I decided to not do top of the world/Dawson City, and burned straight through to Whitehorse from Anchorage. With your down days in Dawson, we surely would have met...

And also next time for me in that area of the country...more time to explore both Alaska and the Yukon.

I just spoke with Jim on the phone this morning - he is working on getting the bearing off the spindle - and inside the hub - the hub is pretty bad - he thinks he might be able to get the bearing to stay inside the hub and clean off the spindle - he got parts from the local NAPA - he is optimistic - he also has skilz

---------------

BTW we are having many issues with the blogging software - it is corrupting photos and the layout - we made a few corrections :)

Just talked to Jim a few minutes ago. We thought that we had located a hub/spindle set fairly close to him, but it didn't work out. I was on my way to FedX to send him a set I came up with here. He was putting the rig back together when we spoke. He had found wheel bearings at NAPA . He dresses the spndle with a file to fit the bearing over it. He put about 20 good deep punch marks in the face of the hub where the outer race seats. This and some "green" locktite (designed to secure bearings in loose bores and things like that) will hopefully provide enough "gription" to keep the outer race from trying to spin before they make it the rest of the way home.

We received an offer of a truck and trailer out of Montana (Thanks Lynda!) so I guess if he can't get the rig home, here is still a backup... Or I can Fed X the parts to the next town that the wheel failes in... :(

But it looks like things are under control now.

Jim has asked that I pass along his thanks for the immediate offers of help that came flooding in.

Everyone has my thanks as well.

Hi Gina, I agree and it's good to see you here!

Rest assured I've been thinking about the ACC (and its honorary outside members) a lot lately. I'll be back.

One question, how can it be possible you guys are still finding DS in your rigs?

I would have thought it would be rallied out by now.

Hi Jim,
I have come to the conclusion that we (those who build to wheel a cruiser) must rally on a more regular basis. I have a theory that DS can be rallied out but if a rig sits too long then it begins to fester and breed more DS. If one were to realy rally hard on a regular basis then the DS would not only be removed and stay gone but eventualy would work in reverse and breakage would be minimal or NONE!! I mean one would be able to run 44" boggers an stock cruiser axles and never break!!!

With that said I have a major GROWL in my 40's NV4500.

Guess I didn't rally it hard or frequent enough.

Just a theory I could be wrong,

Later,
Greg

Hey John... Since it is easier to find you here than to get you to read your email.. ;)

Kevin and I are looking to do a 3-4 day run soon to reach the Susitna From Eureka. Non-family friendly. Drive hard and long, eat an MRE or a can of Dinty Moore stew, and sleep on the ground type of trip. Kevin just suggested next weekend. Not sure yet.

You in?

I'll call you later,

Finishin up!

Yea! I am going to finish up on Gina's rig tommorow and then tidy up mine. I will have to check for a kitchen pass, but all should be good.:bounce:

I'll get that Pitman arm taken care of tomorrow too. Still not definite that I can make it happen for next weekend. About 85-90% though.

As Peter says...that's dirty talk. Not that my truck is built for it, but the spirit calls.

Sure it is... Crank the waste gate down, do an SOA conversion, put some 5.29s and the Marks low range gears in there and some 38+ inch boggers underneath. Bring on the mud and muck! ;)

Hi John,
no silvers yet. Should be happening any time now. So far it's been a really weird year, hardly any pinks either. I hear reds are running well in the Copper. I thought about running up there tomorrow but got a friend to lend his loader to press out the top of the 62. Man it's a mess. I pulled the plugs and blew oil out of 4 cylinders. There was about 2 qts of oil in the intake and air cleaner. Took 4.5 qts of oil and 5 qts of ATF. Started it up and ran well except for the fog of blue oil smoke burning off the cylinders. I'm not sure how well the top is going to press out. Looks to me from sighting down the side that the whole cab is presses about 3" to the divers side.

Hmmmm, maybe a convertable with huge cage system?????

Later,
G
