Going through the same situation, did you find a good shop? Years ago the E. Scheib on O'side Blvd. painted my 60 and paint lasted for 10 years but I guess that shop is no longer in business.

I know of a place in Encinitas off of Vulcan Can't recall the name but they are behind a glass company. It's a two man shop but they guy does good work. I'll swing by and get details today.

I used Maaco to paint my cruiser. They did an Ok job for 1800 bucks but not top notch. There was initially so much debris in the paint it looked like they painted it outside while blowing off the sidewalks. It was funny how utterly thrilled they were with themselves with the quality of the work. They couldn't believe how good they thought it turned out. I made them fix it which they did at no charge and it came out much better thereafter.

Other places that would have done a much better job were in the 4-5k range. For example there is a shop on Auto Parkway next to the hod rod shops that produces some awesome work but was $5k. Since I fully expected the paint to get thrashed I went the budget route removing all of the trim, etc... myself.

Maaco does have a higher end paint job around 2600 bucks that might make for a good compromise.

My Maaco was in San Marcos by 78, yeah, you might just steer clear and use Noah's.

I quoted the Maaco in San Marcos. Was not impressed to say the least. Their pricing was insane and it was like I was bothering them by giving them my business.

Let us know what your price was. I may be in the market soon.

don't really remember, I just remember it was insane and the guy treated me like dirt, I explained to him that my reputation is everything and that I expect the end result to be very good because if he takes my business he is a reflection on me, he just looked at me like he did not give a s***, actually laughed a little.

Gerardo at Maaco Oceanside understood where I was coming from and did a very nice job at the price we agreed on.

Some people get it some don't.

Guy at the local tire shop recommended a place off of South Santa Fe Rd. in Vista, said the guy does very good work at very reasonable prices, did some work for him. I will check that one out as well as the O'side Maaco. Thanks!

FWIW - North County-ish - I had my 62 painted original color at Los Ponchos (that's with an O. There is also a Los Panchos with an A which also gets good reviews) in Tijuana. I did some research online and went down to visit the shops that got decent reviews on Google, Yelp and BMW and Volkswagen forums. I had lower bids, but liked the traffic at Los Ponchos and the owner Armando stayed in touch with me for the two weeks it took to get the job done. Estimate was $1700 for some rust cleanup, body work and window out paint.

Picked it up today and I'm very pleased with the results. Four coats paint/four coats clearcoat. Some over spray, some blemishes on the hood but to the naked eye a pretty decent job. I'd give 7/10 and for the price would recommend them.
