Mars,

I have 16" rims (in fact, I put 2001 rims on my '98). I bedded in the brakes last night and got them so hot they were smoking.

Today, they seem to grab a bit better and the rotors survived the 10 stops from 60-5 mph. So far, I'm happy, but we'll see how they handle towing in the mountains next summer. I have a 5 speed transmission, and try not to use the brakes too much, but the old rotors would heat up and warp more while towing and that was annoying.

I found a set of perfect 2001 rims on Craigslist with two sets of lug nuts (!) for $150. The only way to fly on rims, I think. Keep your eye out for take-off rims.

My rotors just warped on my 02. I am going to go with Autozone rotors with a 2 year warranty on my stock braking system. If they warp again, I will probably look into the Tundra upgrade. I will have them just give me the Tundra rotors if the 4Runner rotors warp.

I just went through replacing rotors and new pad performance friction brand and am not satisfied with my stopping power. I have 16in wheels with 33in tires and new drums and shoes in rear. What gives?
I had them adjusted in fall last year and still do not seem to have any lockup ability. Do I need to adjust shoes in back and or switch to the upgraded toyota pads in front.
Ps also have all ss lines

Is it just since the pad change or since the stainless lines? Could have air in the system.
I would go with a rear brake adjustment and a bleeding.

It has been happening prior to my brake pads and rotors. I was very careful when I bled my brakes.

Will check the rear adjustment

So I went back to my old Toyota pads(sanded lightly to expose new surface) on the front, bled the system again and bedded in the brakes. (6 55mph stops to about 10 mph).
I do get fade at end and will check later for how well they work post cool down and let folks know.
One question I have with the tundra upgrade is what do folks do about extending wheel studs?

How much thicker is the rotor face?

You might have some luck by with the engine off, pumping the pedal till all the assist is used up (10-15 pumps), then pumping an additional 40 or 50 times to help coax some tiny air bubbles that might be trapped in the ABS system, out.

I assume rear shoe adjustment was done/checked.

Rotor thickness is 5mm more than stock 4runner rotors

I will try this out to see if I get any more but Noe I have worse problems
Took another test drive and yes they will lock up, but unfortunately I warped my rotors.

I assume rear shoe adjustment was done/checked.

I did this by approximation. I think it is 205mm but I have nothing to accurately measure. So what I did was spread them just to point I can put the drums on, then yank on the parking brake till they self adjust. I do not think there is a need to use a brake spoon to adjust

So here is where I stand
Factory pads front, duralast rotors, napa drums, premium napa shoes and napa rebuilt rear pistons.

Will have to pull calipers off and replace rotors ( under warranty)
Anyone have luck with napa premium rotors and any feedback on duralast auto zone rotors?
